the backdrop to our story.

There's a tiny island called Daniel Island that is a part of Charleston that serves as the backdrop to Guy's and my love story. I moved to Daniel Island post college; I had ended my relationship with my first love, didn't have a clear career path, and was enamored with the idea of living at the beach. Charleston (and Daniel Island), seemed like the perfect choice.

Guy came to Charleston to attend College of Charleston and post college moved to Daniel Island as it was close to his job. Little did we know we were living on the same street, mere doors from one another.

Fast forward two years where Guy and I are working at the same company and I join his team. We're immediately smitten with one another, both end the relationships we were in, and the rest is history.

I tell you this because it explains just how big this house purchase is for us. I've lived off Daniel Island for the past 6 years; Guy for 3. We always knew we wanted to get back. Purchasing this house isn't just a house purchase. It's getting back to where we fell in love. Where we work. Where we love to be. It's even the backdrop for our engagement.

These keys symbolize a continuation of our love, our story, and our future.

I couldn't be happier.

kitchen redemption recipe: mango mahi & corn quinoa

After my epic fail Tuesday, I knew Wednesday night had to be a winner in the kitchen. My ego can't handle two poor days back to back. Guy planned to make a mahi and mango salsa dish so I decided to make a corn & green pepper quinoa side dish.

Remember this post where I talked about being giddy nervous/excited about something? Well, I'm not pregnant thankyouverymuch. That seemed to be the guess dujour of the day. I guess when you get married people assume your big news is always around getting knocked up?

Anyways.....the big news is that in seven short days, this beautiful house will be ours!!!! Guy and I couldn't be more excited and can't wait to make this house into a home!

Keep your fingers crossed for us that everything continues to go smoothly and we're handed the keys by this time next week! I can't wait to get in there and make it our own. And speaking of which, I'm taking any and all home decor blogs/website recommendations.

This is my motto for 2012.

A few days ago I was going through pictures from when I first moved to Charleston, which was eight or so years ago. I was immediately envious of the young twenty two year old's body that was staring back at me in the picture. I soon realized I've always taken my body for granted. I've always looked at pictures from years past and wished my now present body looked like that in some way, shape or form. But I'm finally realizing that my body has never let me down, gets done what needs to be done, and is a constant work in progress.

So today, I'm grateful for....

....my pin straight arms that mean I never have to worry if a sleeve is going to fit.

....the extra five pounds around my belly that are proof of how happy married life has made me.

....my scarred knees because they mean I haven't sat on the sidelines not participating in life.

I'm going to be thankful for my thirty year old body now. Not when I'm forty, looking back.

And let me tell you, it's kind of a relief to let your body be just as it should be.

Happy Friday Friends! Today felt like a perfect day to play along with Michaela Noelle and her "Fill in the Blank Friday" series! Here.... we.... go!

Outside is: Cooooold! It's been beautiful here in Charleston but today we got a cold snap. I'm actually in a sweater! Whhhat?

I'm excited to see: My friends tonight for dinner! It's Charleston Restaurant Week here in Charleston so we're going out downtown for a delicious Italian dinner and drinks after. Love nights out downtown! Perfect way to start a long weekend!

I'm nervous about: I'm giddy nervous about something really exciting but I can't reveal why yet. I know, I'm so mysterious!

I'm dreaming about: Lunch. Is that bad? Most of my thoughts revolve around food.

recipe: cheesy garlic biscuits!

Like most of the country, we're having unseasonably warm weather for January. This didn't stop me from making a wintery dinner that I had been craving for a few days. The star of the dinner ended up being the cheesy garlic biscuits. Of course I found the recipe via Pinterest. What can't you find on Pinterest!?

{You can probably tell I cooked them 2-3 minutes too long. Take that into account if you try this recipe.}

We also made a potato & corn chowder soup. It was good but not great. My first semi let down from Pinterest I'm afraid.

i lost 12 inches over night.

Do you ever feel dragged down and you don't know why? I've felt that way about my hair recently. It was crazy long.. like longer than I've ever had it long. It was always in the way, never looked the way I wanted it to, and was a constant pain in the ass.

Yesterday I decided I had enough, marched into my favorite salon, and took care of the beast that was weighing me down.

This was then.....

This was when I was practically jumping for joy...

And this is now... 12 inches lighter and couldn't be happier about it!

It's a pretty awesome day when you get to help someone in need by helping yourself. Hope whoever the little girl is that gets my thick blonde hair made into a wig has a smile on her face when she recieves it and immediately runs like hell to feel the wind blow through it.

a touch of country

2012 came in like a lion for me and laid me up the last three days with the mother of all head colds. Hopefully this isn't a sign of what the year is going to be like.

The only advantage to being sick ishaving all the time in the day to surf the internet for various inspriation.

A family friend is renovating her home and is including a barn door between two rooms and it sparked my interest. I had seen an image on Pinterest before of something similar so I decided to dig deeper and found loads of inspiration!

I have to say I love the look but I fear this would be a pricey element to add to a room. Not sure my DIY skills are quite where they need to be to create one of these beauties!

Is everyone else back to work today like me? Here's to hoping it's a quick one!

morgan christmas movie reviews

Like many of you, the holidays are the perfect time for my family and I to head to the movies. We knew immediately what movies we wanted to see this season. In retrospect, they weren't the most holiday-ish movies but that's what the Hallmark channel is for right?!

We first saw Mission Impossible and LOVED it. I hadn't seen the last two so I wasn't sure if I would like this but ended up loving it. As crazy as Tom may be in real life, he's a damn good Ethan Hunt. Love me some Jeremy Renner as well so he was a bonus reason to go. Definitely hit this up if you haven't yet. It's a solid two hours of entertainment.

If you've been reading my blog for a while you know I was all about these books and have been waiting impatiently for the movie ever since. The first thing I would say is that this movie is not for the faint of heart. There are some graphic scenes. While they're needed to tell the story properly they're leaning on the too graphic side in my opinion. Beyond that, the movie is fantastic and follows the story nicely. It leaves out what's not needed and makes sure to include what is for the next movie. Everyone we went with had read the book except my brother and he said he followed the movie just fine. (There are so many Vangers, I'm not sure I could have without reading the book!)

This is an awesome company that sells overlays for furniture to amp up your DIY projects. They advertise specifically for IKEA furniture but I'm guessing these beauties work on more than just IKEA pieces.

Guy and I have the perfect dresser that we found at Goodwill that is begging for a makeover. Me thinks I'll be incorporating Overlays into this project.

christmas worthy recipe: cauliflower gratin

I'm asking you dear readers to trust me on this one. I know many of you would naturally tune out when one starts the word "cauli..." but I promise this recipe is delicious. Like most of you, I'm not the biggest fan of cauliflower but I'll give any recipe with cheese a chance once and I'm oh so glad I did this time.

I'm doubling asking you to trust me because my pictures didn't turn out all that great. I guess you're not asking for a blog worthy photo when you have a white countertop + white cauliflower + white cheese.

I'm already thinking of the projects I want to take on next year once the hustle and bustle of the holiday season passes and a new year begins. I knew immediately when I saw these chairs on Anthropologie that I wanted to do a DIY around this. First, they're uber expensive at $122 (on sale even!) and secondly I see chairs like this all the time at thrift stores.

What a difference a little paint and fabric could make?!

I'm always looking for alternative seating, especially when we have family and friends over, and these would fit the bill nicely! We can tuck them away when needed but have them available when necessary.

Any DIY's on the horizon for you?

Guy & I are back in Charleston after a whirlwind trip to New York City. It was an amazing trip but I'm exhausted. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Being in New York City during the holidays feels like being at the center of the holiday universe. There is so much energy that you feel like you're running on adreneline (and cocktails) the entire time.

And sidenote, this is the first time I've travelled with an iPhone. While amazing, it does make me feel like I'm cheating on my SLR camera. I took all our pictures with the iPhone. My poor SLR...

Guy and I are flying to New York City for a long weekend of fun with a few of his families members! I am so excited! Going to NYC anytime of the year is amazing but at Christmas is truly special.

We have big plans that include going to a jazz show tonight, Wicked tomorrow night, and an amazing Italian dinner Saturday night. The rest of the time will be spent sipping hot toddies in little hole in the wall bars, hitting Macy's for a mega shopping spree, and enjoying a little Christmas spirit a few weeks early.

I. Can. Not. Wait.

What's old is new again right?! This week's 'Yay or Nay' is around houndstooth. A fabric and pattern that has been around for ages but has hit a hot moment as of late.

mantle link up party!

Michelle is hosting a mantle link up party today and I knew I wanted to participate. Tis the season for fun, festive decor and it's always fun to see what everyone does in their own home.

Guy and I don't have a fireplace but we do have a mantle that serves as the center of our family room and I love to change it with the seasons. It may be on the simpler side compared to other homes but it's ours and I love it.

I made the 'Ho Ho Ho' banner last year and still love it to this day. The mix of milk glass and silver accents are throughout my Christmas decor so I love that the mantle emulates the theme as well.

Every year I always struggle with how and where to display the Christmas cards we recieve in the mail. I usually display them on the hutch in my kitchen but they end up looking messy and aren't how I want them to be displayed. I starting surfing Google and the blogosphere for some inspiration and found a good bit!

I found this 'S' at Home Goods last month and thought it would be the perfect

way to display Christmas cards this year. So far I'm loving it!

These sweet beagles have been living in a lab their entire life and the video documents them seeing sun and touching grass for the first time. It's powerful. I wouldn't call myself a traditionalist but there are times when tradition is very important to me. Like many others, Christmas is that time for me. Guy and I enjoy traveling together and we wanted a way to remember all of our travels through the years. Years ago we started buying Christmas ornaments and it's become my favorite thing about our Christmas decor. Last night I was staring at my tree, taking in the ambiant lighting & yummy tree scents. I couldn't help but smile as I looked at all the different memories that hang on our tree. I'm very thankful for these memories and am so glad I have a way to remember them every year.

I *think* I like it for the most part but haven't found the right way to do it myself. I definitely think belting it is the way to go to add some visual interest to the front.

let the countdown begin...

Let's see a show of hands... who is ready for the Thanksgiving holiday?!?! I need this holiday.

I need the time off from work.

I need the big gluttonous meal (and the many gluttonous leftover meals after).

I need the couple of stress free days with Guy to just enjoy ourselves with family and friends.

It's been a stressful weeks folks. Not for one glaring reason... but for lots of little, tiny reasons. But even with the stress... I'm thankful for the upcoming holiday. Thankful for a job that gives me the time off from work. Thankful for my family living close and getting to spend the holiday with them. And certainly thankful for Guy and the ability to spend our first Thanksgiving together as a married couple.

As long as my 'thankful' moments outweight my 'stress/need' moments - I know I'm heading in the right direction....

You know how in the show 'Revenge' the series started with the last scene? That's what I'll be doing in this blog post.

Guy: Hello?

Me: I'm 79% sure I was just taken advantage of.

Now, unto my Friday afternoon of horror. Earlier in the week I decided I wanted (neigh...needed) a massage. Luckily I had a gift certificate for a 60 minute swedish massage. Now, it wasn't to my preferred salon but I felt the need to be cheap and the use of the gift certificate outweighed going with that I knew. This was a bad decision.

I arrived Friday to the salon (name being withheld...for now) early and waited for the two receptionists to quit chatting so I could check in. Once they completed their important conversation on Receptionist A's cleavage (seriously), A brought me around, told me where to change, and asked me to wait for Beth (name not being withheld). I did as I was told and soon Beth arrived in all her glory.

Beth would have been a nice enough woman if she hadn't been barefoot, with holey, stained sweatpants, and a shirt three to four times too big. I immediately shook this off thinking a) she likes to be comfortable or b) her house burned down and this is all she had. I secretly hoped for b.

Beth asked me where I hold my tension. I told her my shoulders and neck. She asked me how much pressure I like. I said 'medium' to be safe. (Beth looked like she could hurt me).

Beth starts the massage focusing on my right leg. This strikes me as a bit odd since I told her my tension was in my shoulders but I figured she had her own method.

I was sadly correct in my thinking.

15 minutes into my 60 minute massage, Beth is still on my right leg. And my butt. I'm starting to mildly panic, feeling my nose start to sweat in fear. Beth continues to tell me to breathe (by making the pregnant woman breathing noise He...He.. Hooooo) and continuingly tells me I can "take pressure" and "this should be fun."

She then stops, puts her Bath and Body Works lotion down ( I kid you not; I can pick out Moonlight Path anywhere) and tells me she thinks I can handle a 'Shih Tzu' massage.

Now, and only now, do I realize she said 'Shiatsu' massage but my brain was scrambled trying to figure out exit strategies before things got weird.

Things got weird.

First, the rainforest music pumping through the speaker system abruptly stopped and Beth immediately leaped into action by bringing out her boombox and putting in a music selection of her choice. It can only be described as a mix between Enya and Sade. I started panicking more.

Then... it happened.

Beth mounted me.

I'm talking got on the table, put all fours on me, and shimmied her way up and down. And when I say 'shimmied' I more mean beat me with her four limbs. I started hyperventilating into the face hole and looking around to see if there was any way I could reach my Blackberry. There was not.

This continued for the last 20 minutes.

Longest 20 minutes of my life.

By the grace of something, Beth left the room and I was free to curl up into the fetal position to try and wrap my head around what happened (and to make sure I could move).

And then, on the wall, I saw this:

:sigh: Really? I had to get out of there. I threw on my clothes, and went out to Beth who acted like I just had the most relaxing experience of my life and said I should come back in two weeks for the 'Muscle Mend' package. I was so traumatized I think I just nodded, took her card, and practically ran out front to avoid making eye contact with her.

I practically threw my gift certificate and tip (yes, I tip even when I feel I've been taken advantage of. I'm not a monster) and ran out dialing Guy as fast as I could.

I'd like to end this horror story with a letter.

Dear Ben at Urban Nirvana,

Hey, it's me, Morgan. What has it been- three, four months since I last came in? I've always sang your praises as the best massage therapist in Charleston but that now means so much more. I'll never go anywhere else. So please don't ever leave. You're my safeplace.

I was browsing my Lucky mag last night and stumbled upon maybe the perfect monogram necklace from Moon and Lola.

You see, living in the south, means that everyone monograms everything. And while I enjoy my monogram as much as the next girl...it's never been my 'go to' thing. This necklace, however, is just different enough I may have to change my tune.

I love the acrylic monogram mixed with the choices of font, chain, and color. It breaks up the monotony of the standard gold monogram.

How's a girl to choose a color?!

:sigh: Monday already? Can it be? How does the weekend fly by so damn fast?

Guy and I had a lovely little weekend filled with friends, family, and as usual... good food! I didn't take my camera along with me many places but I did snap a few shots with my Blackberry camera (yes, I have a Blackberry. ugh. Bonus that my work pays for it but I'd loooove an iPhone. Beggers can't be choosers right?!)

On our last day in Kentucky, we went to the Keenland Race Track. Truth be told, we picked the weekend we went much because Keeneland was running. I had been before but Guy had not and it truly is an experience. The horses are such much more beautiful than any picture can convey.

Guy and I got back from one of the most fun vacations we've had in a while. My perfect vacation includes beautiful scenery, great people, good food, and lots of music. Kentucky managed to fulfill all of this and more. If you haven't been, particulary to Lexington, add it to your 'must' list. You won't be disappointed between the rolling hills, horse farms, and beautiful neighborhoods.

Lately I've been drawn to dresses with long sleeves. I bought one dress last year with sleeves that peaked my interest initially and have ever since have kept my eye on the beauties.
I think I hit the jackpot of sleeved dresses at ASOS. Have any of you shopped there? I haven't and I'm a bit intimidated by it because there is so much to look at. It's also international so I have no clue my size. Anyone know if they run pretty true to size?

I'm not one to deprive myself, which you know since just about every picture of food I post is fried, but lately I've been feeling just 'meh' about myself. I'm realizing I need to stop making excuses, ramp up my workouts, and start eating food that will make me feel good about myself.

Happy October! My favorite month of the year! We celebrated the start of October with a busy weekend filled with family and football. Saturday night we had my parents over to celebrate my dad's birthday. We (mostly Guy... let's be honest) made an Italian feast since my parents were suppose to be in Italy for my dad's birthday but sadly the trip fell through. Thus, we brought Italy to them!

We started the evening with Italian cheeses and meats. And yes, that's a puzzle on the table. I'm obsessed and can't be stopped. I might as well be 60.

Who's observant and noticed my cheese board is in the shape of Wisconsin? You can take the girl outta Wisconsin but you can't take the Wisconsin outta the girl.

Guy made bolognase for dinner and we had an Italian Chianti but the vineyard we visited during our trip to Italy last year. And don't judge me for my awful Ikea table and chairs. We're waiting until we buy a new home to upgrade but I'd LOVE ideas on how to make this table and chairs better now if you've got any ideas!

We had my parents over Saturday night specifically so we could watch Wisconsin roll over Nebraska! Fortunately that prediction came true!

And speaking of football...did I mention that I'm obsessed with Friday Night Lights? How did I not watch this show when it was on primetime?! It's so damn good!

The rest of the weekend was spent recovering from Saturday and preparing for my busy week. I'm off to Washington DC today for work and will be there through Wednesday. It's going to be a ridiculously busy week but one that I look forward to all year.

Hope everyone had a fun start to their October! Fall is officially here!!

With it being consistently in the 80's and humid, it's extremely difficult to decorate for fall. This may sound like ideal weather to some of you but when you've been living in it since May....you're kind of over it.

So while I can't decorate for fall quite yet... I did want to bring a touch of autumn to my house so I can pretend it's cool enough to open the windows and enjoy a crisp fall day.

If you've been a reader for a while, you may remember this post about one particular hater. That was a rough week as a blogger but since then generally things have been great! I've met so many amazing women, have found true friends, and genuinely look forward to reading each of your blogs daily. I try to focus on all of that goodness but sometimes if feels like there are blog stalkers, anonymous of course, that make it their mission to bring you down. Because of this, I've turned off anonymous comments which I hate becuase I want anyone who wants to comment to be able to do so but for my own sanity I felt I need to. I guess it's true... haters gonna hate. :)

Nasty anonymous comments are a good reminder to me that being judgemental gets us no where. I truly believe in 'to each their own' and think this World would be a much better place if we lived and let live. So for me, in my little corner of this World, I'm going to try even harder to practice this... here on my blog and in my life as well.

recipe: strawberry icebox pie

Can you tell from this recipe that I'm trying to hang on to summer? I thought I would take advantage of one last batch of summer strawberries and make a delicious week night pie for Guy and I.

And did I mention it's easy as pie?

{sorry for the cheese...couldn't help it!}

{1 quart strawberries, 1/2 cup unsweetened cranberry juice, 3/4 cup sugar, and 1/4 cup cornstarch}

{mix half the strawberries and the rest of the ingredients over medium heat. mash strawberries.}

{bring to a boil. reduce to a simmer and cook, stirring thoroughly.}

{mix the rest of the strawberries in (after it cools for 2-3 minutes) and pour into premade graham cracker crust}

{let rest in the fridge for at least 8 hours}

{mix 1/2 cup heavy cream with 2 tablespoons of sugar to make whipped cream}

{spread and serve!}

This was delicious! And way better than a pie that would cost twice as much and take twice as much effort!

Oh Monday... why must you insist of rearing your ugly head so soon.

But if you must, we must recap the weekend.

Guy and I took my parents to 82 Queen which is a fabulous restaurant in Charleston that *gasp* I had not been to yet?! I didn't even know there were restaurants in Charleston I hadn't been to. I clearly need to step up my game.

But back to 82 Queen... we had an amazing meal that made it clear I've been missing out.

a weekend of rememberance.

I don't have much for you this Monday morning friends. I had a great weekend overall but I'm feeling a bit drained from such an obviously emotional day yesterday. I couldn't tear myself away from the coverage of 9/11 and all the heartbreaking yet powerful memorials that were happening in New York City, Shanksville, and Washington D.C.

Prior to Sunday however, Guy and I did have a nice weekend filled with going to a movie, watching Badger football, and a little fall shopping.

We saw Contagion Friday night which was pretty good. I didn't have high expectations honestly so I was pleased with the movie. I didn't realized until I watched it that the cast was almost the exact cast of The Talented Mr. Ripley.

Saturday we watched my Badgers win against Oregon State and then I ran a few errands. I stocked up on fun fall tops that will soon my staples in my wardrobe.

But the most important part of the weekend was clearly remembering 9.11.01 and all those that lost their lives and the brave men & women that did everything they could to mimimize the loss on that day.

Besides the morning memorials, the most riveting documentary I watched was '9/11: 10 Years Later' that was aired Sunday night on CBS. It was footage from the French documentarians that were following one Fire House and just happened to find themselves in the middle of the attack. Their footage is the most haunting thing I've ever seen.

Wednesday night we went to dinner to celebrate our dear friend Courtney's birthday and we knew exactly where we wanted to go. Husk.

Husk sound familiar? It may if you read Bon Appetit's Restaurant Issue as Husk was named the #1 best new restaurant. In. The. Country. 

We lucked out even further as it happened to be the start of Restaurant Week here in Charleston so not only did we get a bangin' meal (as my hubs would say), we got it for an amazing prize.

That's what you call a win/win people.

Shout out to my boy Mark Twain for quote in my post title. Not sure what naked people he was referring to but I wish I did.

Monday night during The Bachelor Pad (don't hate, it's like a social experiment gone wrong and I can't NOT watch) I played around on Polyvore creating some fall inspired outfits.

I started with affordable with Old Navy.

This outfit would be perfect for work and transition nicely into happy hour.

Next up was Ruche. Still affordable but a bit more unique than Old Navy.

I could see myself wearing this to brunch or a perhaps for a week night date night.

And finally, my personal favorite, Anthropologie. Not the most affordable but fun to splurge every now and again.

I'd wear this outfit anywhere. To a concert, on a date, to girl's night, etc etc. I love the color combination and feel it's a fresh take on typical fall colors like orange.

Fall won't find it's way to Charleston for another month but a girl can dream right??

So I realized last night it's been a while since I spread the blogger love. I've discovered so many fabulous blogs over the last few years and have made such wonderful friends... I thought why keep these ladies all to myself! I'm nice like that.
First up is drollgirl. One of the snarkiest, funniest women out there. Her dating adventures are some of my favorite posts out there!

Next we have Lindsay of La Belle Vie. Her blog is a bit fashion, a bit entertainment, and whole lot of adorable.

And then we have Miss Bananas herself. Mayra is a whole lotta fierce, funny, and fab. I imagine her and I would be fast friends if we didn't live across the country from one another.

a labor day weekend sans pictures

Don't you love a Tuesday that feels like a Monday? I sure do. Thanks Labor Day!

Speaking of Labor Day, we had a great holiday weekend filled with friends, beach, good food, live music, and relaxation. With all we did, you'd think I would have lots of pictures. I do not. My camera battery was dead and I was too lazy to charge it. I did steal this photo from my friends Facebook page for your enjoyment.

Yesterday I took my mom to see The Help and we both adored it. Probably the closest movie adaptation to the book that I've seen. Do yourself a favor, whether you've read the book or not, and go see it!

This should prove to be a wild weekend weather wise for the East Coast. Fortunately, Charleston has been taken out of the war path and we're only expected to get high winds and rain. I hope all my readers in North Carolina, DC, Maryland, Virgina, New York, and anywhere else affected stay safe!

I'll be using the storm as an excuse to stay in, drink good wine, play Wii, and eat gourmet cheeses.

So I'm a bit of a television-a-holic. I can tell this by the fact that I'm already thinking about fall television.

And by thinking about it, I mean counting down the days until my favorite shows come back.

I swear I have a life.

People say this will change with I have kids. I'll let you know in three to five years.

There are of course my favorites...

....and then there are the new series that are premiering...

All in all... my DVR is looking solid for fall.

These two videos took at least 20 minutes of productivity from my work day yesterday.

Yes, that's how many times I watched them.

First up, my favoooooorite Ryan Gosling being adorable in the city, running errands, and oh, you know.... stopping random fights here and there.

The girl's commentary cracks me up. Had I been her, the camera would be on the ground and I would have been all up in that fight so Ryan could stop me.

No man wears a striped tank top like this man.
The second video is going to be your daily dose of cuteness. If you ever have wondered how closely related primates are to humans, watch this video and tell me you're not amazed. It's like you're watching a human.

I couldn't resist the Crush quote from Finding Nemo.Why? Because I had the coolest experience Friday night. A 'I can finally cross this off my bucket list' kind of experience.

Friday, at Isle of Palms, two loggerheads and one kemp's ridley turtle were released back into the ocean after being rehabilitated for months at the South Carolina Aquarium Sea Turtle Hospital.

It was one of the coolest, most beautiful things I've seen. So amazing.

There were hundreds of locals and tourists lined up to see the three turtles take the long walk to the ocean. It was the perfect way to start my weekend.
I knew pictures wouldn't do this experience justice so I made a little video. Enjoy!

Hi Friends! Hope y'all had an amazing weekend! Guy's and my weekend didn't start the way we wanted but ended better than expected. We had one of those Saturdays where nothing went right so we decided to start our Sunday off the best way we know how. Brunch. 

We decided on Virginia's on King since we hadn't been there in close to a year. We weren't disappointed.

Surprisingly, Virginia's doesn't serve alcohol on Sunday's. Something about the church across the street and the owner being Southern & against it. Welcome to the South! But honestly, you can't have brunch without a bloody or mimosa so we knew we needed to move on to complete our task.

We knew just where to go. Taco Boy.

We wrapped up our afternoon on Shem Creek for some fresh, local caught fish for dinner and took a moment to take in the view. It's days like this where I realize just how amazing Charleston is and how I lucky I am.

In other news, our wedding was featured on The Wedding Row yesterday! This isn't very exciting for you but it was very exciting for me. Sometimes a girl needs to be selfish and bask in her own excitement right?!

It's a sad day friends. After 30 years of avoiding 'As Seen on TV' merchandise, I've caved.

Not once. Twice.

In the past month I've bought two as seen on TV items.

And the worst part? I like them both. A Lot.

It's true. Both are completely useful, served their purpose, and dare I say were money well spent.

I feel like I don't even know myself anymore.

At least I can hold my head up high and say I didn't purchase the pajama jean. Because nothing says "I've given up on life" more than the pajama jean.

Please, someone, anyone... tell me you've purchased an 'As Seen on TV' item so I don't feel so foolish.

Or make fun of me at will. Either is totally fine.

After a week break.... it's time for Thursday Threads!

Full disclosure.... these outfits are from last week. I've been sick this week and didn't think pictures of me with my sweats and ratty tshirts would thrill anyone. Those thrills are saved just for Guy; one of the many reasons why he's lucky to be married to me.

I love outfit two. I've had both the lace tank and black skirt for months now and hadn't worn them. They are both items I would try various ways and never could find the right piece to go with them. Randomly I tried them on together for a girl's night out and voila! Outfit made!

Hope y'all are having a good week. I'm on day two of a Zpac so hopefully I'm better by the weekend!

Being a blogger is such a rewarding part of my life. I started blogging in 2009 because I needed a hobby, felt I had something to say, and had fallen in love with a few blogs and felt I could do it. I forget sometimes that everyone else isn't a blogger so things I do may seem odd or weird to them.

Taking pictures of my food would be culprit numero uno.

Guy and I had date night Saturday night and went to one of our favorite restaurants Cru Cafe. As soon as we got our entrees, I did what I always do. Whipped out my camera, started messing with the settings, and snapped some shots. Immediately after doing this last night, I hear (in a whisper) "Is she really taking pictures of her food?" I had to smile, continued to snap and passed the camera to Guy to get a picture of his. Before he could, the same woman immediately stands up and says she'll take a picture of the two of us. Normally a nice thing to do but I think she was honestly confused by what was going on and decided to take control herself to snap a picture she felt necessary. After taking the picture, she sits down and says to her husband "Much better than a picture of fish."

I had to giggle.

It's been too long since I last did 'Yay or Nay' so I decided it's time to bring it back! This time around we're focusing on summer scarves. Not necessarily a new trend but something I think you either do or don't do.

Personally I wear scarves all fall and winter long... literally everyday. But in the summer I don't really ever think to add a scarf to my outfit. The only time is on planes, and that is for the warmth factor.

reflections on a beautiful weekend.

Oh friends... did I have a wonderful weekend. Guy and I couldn't have had a better time with his sister and her lovely family. The weekend was a great reminder that life is meant to be lived. To play, laugh, and love with abandon. Life isn't meant to be lived by stressing the little things, or consuming more than you need. It's about loving every moment, laughing until your stomach hurts, and being in the fresh air as much as possible. Our weekend was filled with swimming with the frogs, boating to 90's rap, kayaking until our arms ached, and competitive ping pong tournaments. I feel so lucky to have had the last three days.

And because I was having so much fun... I didn't take many pictures. The ones I do have, I love.

And stay tuned for a little video I'm working on.... a lovely little recap of our weekend.

diy: wrap bracelet

I found this post, via Pinterest and knew I needed to try this DIY. I love jewelry. I love spending my time on something creative. And this fit both bills.

These wrap bracelets really are as simple as can be. Visit your local Michael's or AC Moore and you'll find everything you need (see link above for the list of supplies and tutorial).

All you need is leather cord, waxed linen cord, crystal or ball chain, and a hex nut.

And even better, once you've made a couple, you can style any which way!

I love how simple and colorful they are. They're a great addition to my normal silver, gold, and wood bracelets. I'm going to make a few more in some bright pinks and oranges too!

Who has seen Midnight in Paris?

Didn't you love? I knew I would like it but I didn't know I would love it as much as I did. It was charming, witty, funny, and oh so romantic (but not in a cheesy romantic way).

Did anyone else notice how Rachel McAdams wore a belt with every outfit? Totally random, I know, but I was coveting everything she wore and then realized that everything was belted (I have a thing for belts).

Woody Allen must love belts too.

Seriously, if I was single and online dating... my handle would be 'Must Love Belts.' (get it, like 'must love dogs'... but with belts? Work with me here... I'm working on little sleep) I belt everything. And anything. If I can't wear a belt with it... I'm probably not wearing it.

Enough about belts. Continue with your day. But think about belting your next top. You'll be as cute as Rachel. And maybe you'll run into Woody. And he'll cast you in his next movie.
