yay or nay: floral pants

Oh hey, Yay or Nay - welcome back! I've missed you.
This week's 'Yay or Nay' is sure to give a mix of reviews.
What are your thoughts on floral pants? For me, they remind me of my 6th grade 1st day of school picture where I was wearing some hot floral leggings with bright teal socks.
 I tried to find the picture for you but alas fell short.
So instead, I give you celebrities rocking the floral pant.

While I've seen some ladies pull these off (a la Kristin & Olivia), I'm not sure the majority of us could pull these off. Personally, I'm not as daring as I was in the 6th grade so I don't think I'll be wearing floral stretchy pants anytime soon. More power to those that can though!

Happy Monday!

it's the little things.

My brother and his family are in town for two weeks and I couldn't be happier. I love them to pieces and have the best time when they're here. Unfortunately I couldn't take two weeks off so I'm working some of the time they're here. It's hard to concentrate knowing they're at the beach or swimming in the pool and I'm not there to witness my nephew learning to swim or my nieces' excitement at finding a starfish.
But then I get a picture like this and all is good again....

I'll be scarce around these parts for the next two weeks but I'm sure I'll have plenty of updates when I return! Hope everyone is having a wonderful week!

recipe: buttermilk tomato salad

Summer means tomato season and tomato season means I try new recipes with tomatoes almost daily. I spotted this recipe in my June Food Network magazine and I knew I had to try.
Buttermilk? Cherry tomatoes? Basil?
Sign. Me. Up.

This recipe easily takes this....

to this....

It takes all of five minutes and is so tasty! And even better the next day if you have leftovers. This will surely be a staple in our household.

Happy Tomato Season!

playing tourist in my own town.

Some weekends are just perfect weekends to get out as much as you can and explore the city you live in. This past weekend was that weekend for me. It kind of felt like the start of summer for me actually. I took full advantage of the gorgeous weather, local happenings, and good times to be had.

 {taking a moment to enjoy the gorgeous Charleston sky Friday evening}

{dinner with friends at Coast pre Rebirth Brass Band concert}

{local  Charleston restaurant Rue de Jean}

 {spending all Saturday at the beach with friends; drinking, swimming, & flying kites}

{finally getting around to framing and hanging this lovely print from Etsy}

I can't say I'm well rested for the week but here I am!
Happy Monday folks!

And the casting nomination goes to...

If my friend Staci weren't a Development Director extraordinare - I would encourage her to move to Hollywood and become a Casting Director.
Why?
Because she put this little 50 Shades of Grey casting list together and it's BRILLIANT. Perfectly cast in my opinion. Let's see if we can make this happen m'kay?

Truth be told... I'm not in love with the book like the majority of you. I'm still trudging through it in fact. But if Alexander Skarsgaard was Christian Grey you better believe I'd be first in line to see the movie!

TGIF!

I like your shirt...er...dress.

The thing I love the most about the blogosphere is the endless amounts of inspiration I get for all areas of my life. From fashion to food, and travel to D.I.Y - it's never ending.
While I don't remember where I saw this tip, I do know that it stuck with me and made me rethink my closet. So I went into my dress closet (yes, you read that correctly), picked out a few favorites, and immediately went to work into rethinking how I wear them.
I give to you.... a dress that magically turns into a shirt!

Ladies, I think I just doubled my wardrobe!
Having worn two of the three of these outfits, let me give you a few tips in case you're interested in trying this...

1. Wear a slip if you can; it helps smooth everything out & decreases seeing the pattern that may be on the dress
2. Use dresses that are slimmer on the bottom - reduces the chance for bulk
3. I found wearing a belt helped bring the ensemble together & gave it the right shape.

Have you tried this before? Any tips for a newbie at this like me?

our latest addition!

We had a fun filled weekend around these parts with my brother and sister in law driving down from DC with my nephew Max and my new nephew Carter Wyatt.
Isn't he precious?!

I've spent countless minutes staring at him, counting his amazing baby rolls, and wondering what he's thinking.
When not staring at Carter, we spent many a hour watching buses and train videos on You Tube.

Kids really are intrigued by the oddest things

Other than spending time with my family, I attended a baby shower for my dear friend Jenny.

Isn't she gorgeous? She's having a girl and we couldn't be more thrilled for her!
Oh, and I have to post my latest addition to my house...

The painting is via Etsy (last blogged about here) and the tin tiles are old and have found a home in each place I've lived since college.

Hope everyone had a relaxing weekend!
