rivers and roads til i reach you.

Last week Guy and I drove down to lovely Savannah for the night to see one of my favorite bands The Head and the Heart. I only recently discovered them and I can't get enough.
They're from Seattle, self released their album back in 2009 and it got picked up last year and was re-released by a record label. Since then they've appeared on Austin City Limits, are touring on their own, and soon are touring with Dave Matthews Band. (swwwooooon)

If you haven't been to Savannah, it's definitely worth the trip. Historic, beautiful and friendly. That said, it's no Charleston. If you can only go to one, still make your way to Charleston.
After we walked around a bit and had a few brews (you can walk around outside with alcohol in Savannah!) prior to the show.
And the show... oh the show. It. Was. Amazing. They really are something special and I felt so lucky to have seen them live in such a small venue. Next time I see them it'll be in an amphitheatre with thousands of people.

So do yourself a favor and download their album immediately. And then listen to Rivers and Roads and think of me.

Happy Thursday!

wedge your way into summer!

After work today, go get a pedicure and then run, do not walk, to Target to check out their amazing wedge sandal collection. So many choices and only two feet!

Love the braiding detail on the first and last pair!
Has anyone already snatched a few of these beauties up?

a shrimp meal even Bubba would be proud of.

This past weekend Guy and I had our first party at our new home and it was a crazy success! We knew immediately we wanted to party lowcountry style which meant a lowcountry boil was in order! What's that you say? Only a delicious mix of shrimp, corn, potatoes, and sausage.

Living in Charleston means you go straight to Shem Creek for your shrimp. It's not shrimpin' season yet but it's getting close!

Here's the finished product.
We have plenty of leftovers so I think some shrimp and grits will be in order for dinner tonight!

I of course was having too much fun entertaining at the party to take pictures (I really need to get better at that) but I did get this one of everyone watching the last few minutes of the Florida game.
Having 30+ people in your house can be somewhat daunting but it went so well & we already can't wait to have another one! We're thinking brunch next time. I promise to take more pictures!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

wine and design night!

Last night two friends and I decided to get down with our creative self(s) and become the true artists we've always known we could be. Or maybe one of us had a gift certificate to a place called Wine and Design and brought the other two of us along to drink wine and paint.
Either way - we went, we conquered, and we almost quit our day jobs to become artists.
Wine and Design is such a fun concept - you bring your own cocktail of choice, choose a painting theme to tackle, and get artistic for two hours with your friends. So fun! I highly recommend it! Being in Charleston, we choose the seagrass & ocean theme of course. The teacher takes you step by step through the process, most of which I documented below. Honestly, they make it practically dummy proof.

And then you have the finished product!

Not too bad for a girl with zero artistic talent?
The best part is the end, when you see all of the paintings complete and see the slight differences in each persons painting even though you were hearing the same instructions.

I'm already itching to go back and paint again.
Here's to making this a good Tuesday!

Happy 43rd Anniversary to my sweet parents!

I love this photo of my parents. Just married and getting in the car to start their future together.
I couldn't ask for better, more loving parents.
Happy Anniversary! A daughter couldn't love her parents more.

{not so} sweet dreams are made of these

{via}

I need a dreamcatcher. A few times a month  I have these dreams about people from my past that mess with my head and weigh on me the entire next day. It's always the same few people and the dreams are always similar. It's like I'm in some kind of dream Groundshog Day and it's getting old. My subconscious is playing games with me! And the oddest part is that people morph into other people in my dreams. Does that ever happen to you?
What do you commonly dream about? Do you think about them the next morning or day?

weekend scenes!

As usual, the weekend went by way too fast. Losing a hour of sleep didn't help either!
Guy and I had a packed weekend and surprisingly I documented it with my iPhone (I've been terrible about taking pictures lately).
{reusing an old mantle to create a photo ledge in our upstairs landing}

{a beautiful housewarming gift from dear friends}

{finding the perfect spot to hang our custom made driftwood mirror; one of our favorite wedding gifts}
{participating in an island wide yard sale -talk about overwhelming!}

{Guy riding the back of a friends car getting our new sofa home!}
{more on that later... need to find the perfect slipcover}

{when Guy is away, dinner consists of wine & gelato!}

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

morgan's {anti} recommendations

I thought I would do things a little differently today and let y'all know some products and ideas I don't recommend. So often we're telling each other the things we love but we aren't telling one another the things that aren't living up to the hype!

Disappointment Numero Uno: Plug In Air Fresheners

Are these things strong or what? I've been trying to find one of these for the closet Gus' litter box is in but they are all so damn strong. They overpower the entire house. Has anyone had any luck with these?!

Disappointment Number Two: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

I so wanted to love this book since so many of you told me you read and liked it but I just couldn't get through it. It's rare I don't finish a book and I didn't finish this one. Enough said.

Disappointment Number Three: Whatever these shoes are called

So I'm not talking about these shoes exactly but these 'type' of shoes with the weird scrunched back. Every pair I've ever had or tried on immediately have given me blisters. They might be the most uncomfortable shoes ever!

Disappointment Number Four: Crest Vivid White

I hated this toothpaste. I think it did make my teeth whiter but I consistently felt like my teeth weren't clean. After I month, I gave back and went to regular old Crest.

Your turn! Save me the hassle - what product wouldn't you recommend??

from zero to hundred in one weekend.

I don't know about where you are but it was rainy and nasty in Charleston Friday and Saturday of this past weekend. Because of that, we spent most of our weekend doing the following.

But then Sunday came around and we got our second wind to get some things done around the house. Nothing big but every bit helps right? And for being here only three weeks - I think we're making great progress!
One of my favorite additions are the valance curtains in our master bedroom. I found the perfect fabric and asked Guy's mom (aka seamstress extraordinaire) to make our windows beautiful.
The fabric goes perfectly with our paint (Behr Sage Tint) and adds visual interest to our otherwise lack luster windows. I can't wait to start accessorizing the room! More on that soon hopefully.

After hanging our new valances, we went to work on our main guest room. We already have houseguests planned in the coming weeks so we wanted to make it look nice. Fortunately we didn't have to spend any money as we used items from our old townhome that we hadn't found the perfect place for yet.

Here's the before; a sky blue for a little boy I'm sure.

With a little paint (Valspar Summer Clouds), the room is transformed to a more tranquil space fit for guests.

Nothing mind blowing here but for only the cost of a can of paint, I'm pretty happy with the room. I do want to get new sheets, bedspread, and some paintings hung on the wall asap.

The 'to do' list for a new home never ends!
Happy Monday friends!

morgan's book corner: need recommendations!

Friends! I need any and all book recommendations. I haven't read in {gasp} a month. I blame the two books I tried to read but couldn't get into so I gave up and became a zombie in front of the television for a month. I can do this no longer. So send them my way - any and all recommendations!
 And yes, I've read The Hunger Games series and have the 16th already saved on my calendar. :)
