stingray - 1; guy - 0.

Living at the beach is amazing. Coming from living in Wisconsin the majority of my life (which I loved), there's something about being able to drive 5 minutes to the beach anytime you like. There are so many upsides - watching sea turtles released back into the wild, having dolphins playfully swim right beside you, and of course enjoying a beach sunset. So with all of that good... there has got to be an occasional downside right?
Right....

See that teeny, tiny mark on Guy's foot? Yeah, apparently when you accidentally step on a stingray, they retaliate with the most painful sting you will experience. Guy immediately went down and was in the worst pain of his life. We first thought he got stung by a jellyfish but quickly realized it wasn't based on the pain he was in. After a trip to the ER via an ambulance he was drugged up and ready to rest the remainder of the weekend.
My poor man. Lord knows if that had been me I would have passed out on the spot.
But you know what? Even with that experience, we love the beach and will be back as soon as this weekend. How could you not go back to this beautiful place?

Here's to an accident free week! Happy Monday!

yay or nay: navajo prints

If it's possible for a print to be polarizing, I think this may be it. I have a feeling you like this print or your don't. I myself haven't made up my mind but I'm leaning towards no. Interested to see what you say.... yay or nay to navajo!?

I *think* I may like Nicole's pants and I know I like Minka's scarf but the rest is an absolute no.
So bring on the opinions!

a little blue dot in a big red state.

Austin, Texas is one of my favorite cities in all of the U S of A. I was lucky enough to go there for a few days last week for work and while I didn't get to stay right downtown, I got to enjoy as much of Austin as possible. Austin is filled with great people, food, & of course music. For some reason all of the signs around town were catching my eye.
 {some of the best food truck eats I've had!}
 {love everything about this}
 {I had to take this for my sweet friend Maggie}
 {Handlebar Austin}
 {think they have enough to choose from?}
 {homeward bound to beautiful Charleston}

If you haven't been to Austin, immediately add it to your 'must' list. There's nothing not to like about this place!

my kitchen is for dancing.

Guy is the chef in the family.
And a damn good one.
But for me, the kitchen is for dancing.

I'm talking socks on (for sliding of course!), wine in hand, dancing
To Otis Redding. Always Otis Redding.

Sometimes it's the little things after a particularly ho-hum day right?

Wishing you all a lovely little weekend!

the very best of: J.Crew sale

As my IRL friends know, but perhaps not my blog buds, I rarely buy anything full price. My mom is a master bargain hunter and instilled those good genes & tips in me at an early age. It isn't about being cheap... it's  thinking truly about 'want' versus 'need', the value of money, and of course having patience.
So knowing that, I thought it would make sense to start a new series called 'the very best of...' where I highlight the best 'Sale' finds for that week from one of my favorite vendors. Hopefully this will help you see what bargains* are out there without having to do the work! I hope you enjoy!
The week's pick is J.Crew... and boy was there a lot to choose from.

Number 2 Pencil Skirt in Eyelet:  Was $128.... Now $98
 Candy Stripe Jute Clutch: Was $98... Now $34.99

Number 2 Pencil Skirt in Safari Cat: Was $128... Now $49.99
 Scalloped Eyelet Short: Was $70... Now $54.99
Painter Stripe Tee: Was $39.50... Now $29.99
Bright Eyelet Tank: Was $39.50...Now $29.99

Pretty cute right?! Lots of good staples to be had at J.Crew right now!
Stay tuned for next's week pick and post on the 'best of!'
xoxo

*I understand a 'bargain' can mean different things to different people.... and certainly different price points. My idea of a bargain will vary from vendor to vendor.

mint to be.

I saw this photo on Pinterest (imagine that?) last week and new immediately I wanted to recreate it.

I love almost everything about it. I'm not a big pearls fan so I would omit those but otherwise this outfit screams 'Morgan! Morgan!' I might scream back 'Simmer on the popped collar!' but otherwise it's a match made in heaven.
I of course had to make a Polyvore inspiration board...

MintJeans

I pretty much have everything in this board with the exception of the most important part... the mint jeans of course! I think those need to be next on my 'fall must have' list!
(For your reference, the above jeans are at Urban Outfitters, the sweater is Boden, the Chambray shirt is The Territory Ahead, the watch is Michael Kors, and the rest was found on Polyvore!)

What do you think? Are you brave enough to wear mint jeans? I have no need to ask myself that question as I'm wearing blazingly bright neon yellow jeans as I type!

gallery wall: in progress

Pinterest has done it again. I needed inspiration for my downstairs half bath and found everything I need in one photo.
I'm obsessed with this bathroom. It's moody & light all at the same time. The rug is perfection yet unexpected. I immediately knew this was my inspiration for my lackluster powder room.
I wanted to wait until the room was complete to post but I quickly realized it's going to take a solid year or more to fill the walls with things I love. So I give to you my half bath... in progress
My bathroom was already blue which I didn't love until I started this project. Now I love it. And it's been so fun finding the right pieces to fill the walls. I'm being selective and only putting pieces that I love.
While I sometimes wish it was complete, it has been fun searching, thrifting, finding, and making pieces to add to it throughout the months!
Oh Pinterest, how I love thee.

yay or nay: peplum

Happy Monday dolls! I hope everyone had a fun holiday and hopefully a fun few days off after. Since I took so much time off to be with my family I didn't take Thursday or Friday off but the ended up being pretty quiet so it was kind of a win-win!
For this week's round of 'Yay or Nay', I give to you peplum.
Personally, I love this trend and hope it stays around long enough to own a piece with the detail myself.

I'm kicking myself from not getting a black leather peplum top a few months back because I didn't want to pony up the cash. Damn you Morgan!

Can't wait to hear what you think!

morgan's book corner

Bring each and all of your summer reading recommendations! This girl is in need!
And before you take the time to comment, yes I've read 50 Shades of Grey.
 As I've mentioned, I wasn't in love with the first book but it was good enough to keep my interest and complete it. And then a girlfriend let me know she though 50 Shades Darker was better so I took a gamble and she was right. It was better.
 I haven't read 50 Shades Freed but it's already downloaded on my iPad.

I'm currently reading John Grisham's The Confession and it's pretty great. I forgot how much I love his writing style. Every time I read a Grisham book I think about who will play the lead role because you know it will eventually be made into a movie (A Time to Kill anyone?).

So here is where you come in... once The Confession is complete, what should I move on to?
You ladies and gents haven't let me down in the past.... so keep the recommendations coming!

staycation recap!

After over a week of blissful days off from work, alas - I am back. Let me tell ya... a 'staycation' is where it's at. No travel woes. The comfort of your own bed. Family all around.
Can you tell I enjoyed myself?
I had a hard time picking pictures to share since they were all versions of the same thing. There was lots of sun, beach, drinks, darts, laughs, and of course family.
 {a fun sign to one of our local bars}
 {a post dinner picture on Shem Creek}
 {the perfect natural lighting on a perfect beach day!}
{my sweet mama, sister-in-law Amy & niece Lauren}
 {hm, see a resemblance? My brother Todd and amazing dad Carl}
 {the obligatory jumping picture... as best as a four and six year old can do}
 {beach treasures}

Looking at all our pictures from the last two weeks made me both nostalgic & sad. I'm so lucky to live close to my parents but I wish I lived closer to both my brothers. Seeing them once or twice a year just isn't enough!
Hope you all had a wonderful past week. Can't wait to catch up on your blogs!
xoxo
