You're up... would you wear aztec print??

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

happy birthday to my favorite!

It's a special day for me today. Today's my beloved father's birthday!
If you know me at all you know I'm a complete and utter daddy's girl and I will fight anyone that tells me they have a better dad than I do. He's simply the best.

Here are just a few of the reasons why I love my dad oh so much....

....he always roots for Wisconsin football... even if they're playing my brother's teams!
...he puts everyone and anyone before himself. He's not called 'Carl the Good' for no reason
...he always remembers to remind me when my car is due for a tune up.
....he's appreciative of the little things and small moments in life.
....I never have to wonder if he'll be there for me whenever and however I need him.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
I love you dad! Look forward to celebrating on Saturday!

a touch of autumn

With it being consistently in the 80's and humid, it's extremely difficult to decorate for fall. This may sound like ideal weather to some of you but when you've been living in it since May....you're kind of over it.
So while I can't decorate for fall quite yet... I did want to bring a touch of autumn to my house so I can pretend it's cool enough to open the windows and enjoy a crisp fall day.
{lovely spicy smells around the beverage cart}

{my green door is a bit hard to match when it comes to wreathes but I found this one last year and still love it this year...until I DIY a new one that is!}

{small metallic pumpkins to add to our mantle}

{my birdcage always become some type of holiday decor}

 {and my favorite...my new metallic pumpkins from Michael's!}
{and....the BEST SMELLING CANDLE EVER. Leaves, from Bath & Body Works}

Have you decorated for fall yet? Any brilliant new decor ideas?!

I was on Pinterest recently and saw this photo.
I was immediately drawn to it for various reasons but most of all the knit blazer. It's now a must have item for fall.
I immediately started searching online for the perfect knit blazer and while I found options, I didn't find any as fab as the one above. Here's a round up of what I found.

haters gonna hate.

If you've been a reader for a while, you may remember this post about one particular hater. That was a rough week as a blogger but since then generally things have been great! I've met so many amazing women, have found true friends, and genuinely look forward to reading each of your blogs daily. I try to focus on all of that goodness but sometimes if feels like there are blog stalkers, anonymous of course, that make it their mission to bring you down. Because of this, I've turned off anonymous comments which I hate becuase I want anyone who wants to comment to be able to do so but for my own sanity I felt I need to. I guess it's true... haters gonna hate. :)
{via}

Nasty anonymous comments are a good reminder to me that being judgemental gets us no where. I truly believe in 'to each their own' and think this World would be a much better place if we lived and let live. So for me, in my little corner of this World, I'm going to try even harder to practice this... here on my blog and in my life as well.

And to all of you... a big THANK YOU for making blogging such an amazing experience.

recipe: strawberry icebox pie

Can you tell from this recipe that I'm trying to hang on to summer? I thought I would take advantage of one last batch of summer strawberries and make a delicious week night pie for Guy and I.
And did I mention it's easy as pie?
{sorry for the cheese...couldn't help it!}

{1 quart strawberries, 1/2 cup unsweetened cranberry juice, 3/4 cup sugar, and 1/4 cup cornstarch}

{mix half the strawberries and the rest of the ingredients over medium heat. mash strawberries.}

{bring to a boil. reduce to a simmer and cook, stirring thoroughly.}
{mix the rest of the strawberries in (after it cools for 2-3 minutes) and pour into premade graham cracker crust}
{let rest in the fridge for at least 8 hours}

{mix 1/2 cup heavy cream with 2 tablespoons of sugar to make whipped cream}

{spread and serve!}

This was delicious! And way better than a pie that would cost twice as much and take twice as much effort!
Happy Tuesday loves!

you're a wizard Harry.

Oh Monday... why must you insist of rearing your ugly head so soon.
But if you must, we must recap the weekend.
Guy and I took my parents to 82 Queen which is a fabulous restaurant in Charleston that *gasp* I had not been to yet?! I didn't even know there were restaurants in Charleston I hadn't been to. I clearly need to step up my game.
But back to 82 Queen... we had an amazing meal that made it clear I've been missing out.
{just part of the delicious menu... it was tough to choose!}

{not that touch actually... once I saw fried chicken with taso gravy and a corn waffle... I was sold}

{a sweet ending to the evening}

{my adorable hubs}

We spent the rest of the weekend watching football, visiting friends, and eating more amazing food. Oh, and catching up on Harry Potter. (Yes, I'm 10 years behind and had never seen any Harry Potter movies!)

Two down... and many more to go!
And what do you think... worth reading the books after you've seen the movies? Or should I have read them first?

christian siriano slays it at NYFW.

I've been keeping up to date with New York Fashion Week like the rest of you and have been impressed overall but wasn't blown away until I saw Christian Siriano's Spring 2012 Collection. It's swoon worthy for sure. Take a looksy.

If I had been one of those models I would have run right off that runway and not looked back.
The neon and neutral combination is a new favorite.

Who has been your favorite at NYFW?
xoxo

PS - Come back tomorrow for an amazing giveaway! If I could pull strings to win it myself, you suckers would be soooooo out of luck!

new uses for old things: men's button down

Remember Tom Cruise sliding down that hallway in his button down playing air guitar?
Yeah, pretty much since then the button down has been iconic in fashion history.
Even supermodels are sporting the look.
A white shirt probably couldn't look better.

I stumbled upon this video last week and couldn't not post. I love all the possibilities explored with one measly men's button down.

Hope you enjoyed!
Have a great Tuesday loves!

a weekend of rememberance.

I don't have much for you this Monday morning friends. I had a great weekend overall but I'm feeling a bit drained from such an obviously emotional day yesterday. I couldn't tear myself away from the coverage of 9/11 and all the heartbreaking  yet powerful memorials that were happening in New York City, Shanksville, and Washington D.C.
Prior to Sunday however, Guy and I did have a nice weekend filled with going to a movie, watching Badger football, and a little fall shopping.

We saw Contagion Friday night which was pretty good. I didn't have high expectations honestly so I was pleased with the movie. I didn't realized until I watched it that the cast was almost the exact cast of The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Saturday we watched my Badgers win against Oregon State and then I ran a few errands. I stocked up on fun fall tops that will soon my staples in my wardrobe.
{pops of color & animal prints}

But the most important part of the weekend was clearly remembering 9.11.01 and all those that lost their lives and the brave men & women that did everything they could to mimimize the loss on that day.
{via}
Besides the morning memorials, the most riveting documentary I watched was '9/11: 10 Years Later' that was aired Sunday night on CBS. It was footage from the French documentarians that were following one Fire House and just happened to find themselves in the middle of the attack. Their footage is the most haunting thing I've ever seen.

Wishing everyone a wonderful, peaceful start to their week.

who's number one? husk's number one.

Wednesday night we went to dinner to celebrate our dear friend Courtney's birthday and we knew exactly where we wanted to go. Husk.
Husk sound familiar? It may if you read Bon Appetit's Restaurant Issue as Husk was named the #1 best new restaurant. In. The. Country.
We lucked out even further as it happened to be the start of Restaurant Week here in Charleston so not only did we get a bangin' meal (as my hubs would say), we got it for an amazing prize.
That's what you call a win/win people.
{half of my dinner dates for the evening}

{yes, you read that correctly. Fried. Chicken. SKINS.}

{Guy's dish. Husk is known for their pork. They have pork fat butter and pork infused cornbread. Need I say more?}

{my dish. arguably the best dish of the evening}

{there are no words. this looks unassuming but had BIG taste.}

Oh Charleston restaurant scene.... how I love thee.

Hope Friday flies for us all so we can get to our weekend sooner! Love a short week that gets me to my weekend faster!
