friday etsy finds.

I've stored some lovelies from Etsy over the last few weeks that I thought I would share. I hope to call at least one of these beauties my own in the near future. Oh how to decide...

How's a girl to choose??
Wishing you a wonderful weekend! Mine is jam packed but I'm looking forward to every minute!

upcycled: chairs!

Oh my goodness... I think these are so cool. Love the creative mind that came up with these.

Big thanks to Kevin for introducing me to these! I think I'll have to add these to my 'DIY' to do list.
What do y'all think? Cool way to recycle your old chairs yes?

yay or nay: summer scarves

It's been too long since I last did 'Yay or Nay' so I decided it's time to bring it back! This time around we're focusing on summer scarves. Not necessarily a new trend but something I think you either do or don't do.
Personally I wear scarves all fall and winter long... literally everyday. But in the summer I don't really ever think to add a scarf to my outfit. The only time is on planes, and that is for the warmth factor.
So what about you? Yay or Nay?

Can't wait to hear what you think!
Yay or Nay?

reflections on a beautiful weekend.

Oh friends... did I have a wonderful weekend. Guy and I couldn't have had a better time with his sister and her lovely family. The weekend was a great reminder that life is meant to be lived. To play, laugh, and love with abandon. Life isn't meant to be lived by stressing the little things, or consuming more than you need. It's about loving every moment, laughing until your stomach hurts, and being in the fresh air as much as possible. Our weekend was filled with swimming with the frogs, boating to 90's rap, kayaking until our arms ached,  and competitive ping pong tournaments. I feel so lucky to have had the last three days.
And because I was having so much fun... I didn't take many pictures. The ones I do have, I love.

And stay tuned for a little video I'm working on.... a lovely little recap of our weekend.
Hope y'all are having a wonderful start to your week!

tgi......thursday!

Hi friends! I'm extra excited it's Thursday because Guy and I are on our way to....

Not the city... but to upstate New York where Guy's sister and family live. I love going to visit... it's relaxing and outdoorsy. The weekend will be filled with swimming, boating, poker, laughter, Rock Band, and much more.
Here's to wishing you a fast two days of work and a wonderful weekend!
I'll be back around on Monday. Until then.... adios!

diy: wrap bracelet

I found this post, via Pinterest and knew I needed to try this DIY.  I love jewelry. I love spending my time on something creative. And this fit both bills.
These wrap bracelets really are as simple as can be. Visit your local Michael's or AC Moore and you'll find everything you need (see link above for the list of supplies and tutorial).
All you need is leather cord, waxed linen cord, crystal or ball chain, and a hex nut.
And even better, once you've made a couple, you can style any which way!
I love how simple and colorful they are. They're a great addition to my normal silver, gold, and wood bracelets. I'm going to make a few more in some bright pinks and oranges too!

Hope you like! Happy Tuesday loves!

midnight in paris...with a belt on.

Who has seen Midnight in Paris?

Didn't you love? I knew I would like it but I didn't know I would love it as much as I did. It was charming, witty, funny, and oh so romantic (but not in a cheesy romantic way).
Did anyone else notice how Rachel McAdams wore a belt with every outfit? Totally random, I know, but I was coveting everything she wore and then realized that everything was belted (I have a thing for belts).

Woody Allen must love belts too.
Seriously, if I was single and online dating... my handle would be 'Must Love Belts.' (get it, like 'must love dogs'... but with belts? Work with me here... I'm working on little sleep) I belt everything. And anything. If I can't wear a belt with it... I'm probably not wearing it.

Enough about belts. Continue with your day. But think about belting your next top. You'll be as cute as Rachel. And maybe you'll run into Woody. And he'll cast you in his next movie.
A girl can dream right??

recipe: mini carrot cupcakes with cream cheese frosting

Hello lovlies! Did y'all have a nice weekend? I certainly did. Unfortunately I didn't take any photos this weekend so I thought I'd share some delicious cupcakes I made this past week. I outdid myself if I do say so.
The key to a good carrot cake is lots of yummy spices and a good cream cheese frosting recipe. I don't think I'd ever make another carrot cake... I liked these that much.
The recipe makes 48 which was perfect because we were able to share some with a friend,some with my dad, and the rest for us!

I love mini cupcakes. They're the perfect bite size portion so you can enjoy your dessert without feeling overly guilty!

Mini Carrot Cupcakes

For the cupcakes:
1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger (I didn't use this)
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1 1/2 cups grated carrots
2/3 cup vegetable oil
1 cup sugar
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the frosting:
2 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon almond extract

1. Preheat oven to 350. Line your mini cupcake pan. Put the flour, almonds, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and allspice in a food processor and pulse until almonds are finely ground.
2. Whisk grated carrots, vegetable oil, sugar, eggs, and vanilla in a large bowl until combined. Stir in the flour mixture until just combined. Divide among mini muffin tins, filling each 3/4 of the way full. Bake until toothpick comes out clean, 10-15 minutes. (Mine only took 10)
3. Meanwhile, make the frosting. Beat the confectioner sugar, cream cheese, and butter with a mixer until fluffy. Beat in lemon juice and almond extract. Spread on cooled cupcakes.
Hope you enjoy! Please let me know if you try these!
Happy Sunday!

thursday threads 7.14.11

Thursday Threads is back!

I'm a solid month in (albeit a skipped week due to laziness) in doing Thursdays Threads and if you can believe it (drumroll please).... I haven't bought one piece of clothing! You can read here why I originally did this and I'm proud to say it's working. I'm having so much fun searching through my closet for new ways to put outfits together. And I'm also searching my favorite fashion blogs for inspiration and color combinations. In fact, outfit two was inspired by this outfit of Kendi's.

What's your new favorite color combination? I'm thinking I may try olive green and navy blue next!

i know i'm a vampire snooki!

I've been a bad blogger as of late. I just can't get motivated.
I blame television.
Exhibit A: DirecTV
Guy and I upgraded our DirecTV to include not one, but two DVR's that play any recording in any room. I can't tell you how happy it made me to watch The Bachelorette in bed. Not sure Guy shared my enthusiasm but a happy wife is a happy life right?? With this upgrade came On Demand which I can already tell is going to become a huge timesuck and will dramatically cut into my sleep schedule.

Exhibit B: The return of True Blood and Weeds

My Sunday and Monday evening's are officially occupied.
If only Boardwalk Empire was on Tuesday... my television trifecta would be complete.

Somehow I still manage to do nothing last night... I got sucked into two hours of The Office repeats.
I need a hobby.

a rainbow of fashion inspiration.

I've been having fun 'pinning' and searching some of my favorite fashion via Pinterest lately (Pinterest = complete and utter timesuck). When I went back and looked at all I had pinned I realized I'm in a color craze. Everything is bright,colorful, and loud.

{pretty in pink}

{orange crush}

{leggy, mellow, and yellow}

{gorgeous in green}

{blushing blue}

{lovely lavender with denim}

What's your favorite color to wear lately? Based on my closet, mine would be blue but lately I'd say orange!
Happy Monday friends!

your lean pockets were delicious.

Saw this on Pinterest and had to post for a few reasons.

1. It's funny.
2. This happens at my workplace all the time.
3. The fact that the lean pocket thief did a serial killer cut out message is friggin' hilarious.

Hope you're having a good Sunday! Kisses!

recipe: salmon croquettes

Guy and I tried a new recipe last night and we were really pleased! We make fish weekly but we rarely make salmon at home. We decided to try salmon croquettes and thought they were pretty close to perfect.

I know not everyone is a 'fish' or 'salmon' person but if you are - try this!
You can find the recipe here. (We halved the recipe and used fresh salmon instead of canned.)
We also made a remoulade sauce from this recipe.

You may have noticed this isn't a Thursday Threads post. Yeah... with the holiday weekend, travel, and just general laziness I couldn't be bothered. But I gave you a fab recipe - that makes up for it right?!

girl crush: zooey deschanel

I can't get enough of Zooey Deschanel lately. She's ridiculously adorable. She's that girl that you want to be friends with and secretly wish you were. Even her career choices are on point.... 500 Days Summer, Elf (who didn't love that movie?!), and her musical duo She & Him with M. Ward.
Good lord... even her commerical for cotton is adorbs!

Her latest choice, The New Girl, looks ah-mazing! I never watch commericals but when the promo for her newest show comes on, I can't help but watch. It looks hilarious! Too bad it doesn't debut until the fall...

And is it me, or does she look like a more normal, less cartoon version of Katy Perry?

Who have you been keeping your eye on? Are there other rising stars I should be aware of?

baby you're a firework...

As expected we had a wonderful time in Omaha with my brother and his family. It was a weekend filled with laughter, superheroes, princesses, and lots of smiles. My niece Lauren and nephew Brandon are pretty much the cutest things. Take a look...

{i think brandon is mid 'cheeessseee' here}

{precious}

{being princesses for the day!}

{we did many, MANY fireworks.. but my favorite were the simplest...the Japanese lanterns}

{please notice how lauren is flashing her 'brass' knuckles}

While we truly had an amazing weekend we also got some horrible news. A close family friend died unexpectedly. This of course has devasted my family. I continue to keep both families in my thoughts to make it through such a difficult time. It's hard when someone leaves us far too early. Hug your loved ones extra hard today for me.

In happier news... I also heard from my oldest friend Kristen that she is engaged! I'm so happy for my dear friend... she deserves to be over the moon in love. Congratulations sweet friend!
