playing with colors.

I have two new favorite color combinations that I plan shopping in my closet to create some outfits around. I thought I would play around with Polyvore to get some inspiration.
First up....
Yellow and Lavender. Oh so feminine and pretty.

Yellow & Purple
And next...
Kelly Green and Blue. Unexpected and lovely.

Kelly Green & Blue

So what do you think? Would you wear either of these color combinations? Or do you have a new favorite?

a day to give thanks

Hope everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day with family and friends. Please take a moment to remember who and what we have to thank for the freedoms we enjoy each and everyday.
I'm thankful for all our former and active military men and women - today and everyday!

three cheers for a long weekend!

Hooray for Memorial Day!
Hope y'all have a wonderful holiday weekend filled with food, friends, and family.
I thought I'd share a picture or two of the easiest dessert ever. Saw my inspiration on Pinterest (of course) and thought I would have for dessert one night this week. Guy and I aren't huge dessert people but we like having something sweet at the end of the meal. This was perfect for us!

{white & milk chocolate chips in raspberries}

Enjoy the weekend loves!

morgan's book corner: hawaii edition

Guy and I did our fair share of reading on our honeymoon and I thought I'd share as I finished some fantastic books. Apparently I read very fast when given a constant supply of fruity drinks and ocean breeze.
First up, Little Bee.

Good, not great. I had a hard time getting through it but it wasn't so hard that I didn't finish. Just a little slow in my opinion. Not sure I would recommend to anyone although I know of ton of you have read and loved. Honestly, I think I was so excited to finish and read my next book that I didn't let myself enjoy it.
Speaking of the next book...

Hilarious!!! Clearly going in I knew this would be funny but it was even funnier than I expected. Tina Fey has a way with words and I was constantly being ssshhhh'd by Guy because I was practically snorting in our cabana. If you haven't read, read immediately.

After Bossypants I started The Hunger Games... which I had been waiting impatiently to begin.

The only way I can compare reading this book is my reading of the Twlight or Dragon Tattoo series. Loved them both, didn't want either series to end. Hunger Games is the same way. I'd say I didn't love it as much as Dragon Tattoo but loved more than (dare I say) Twilight. Suzanne Collins knows how to spin a tale, keep a story moving, and end on the right note.
Did you know Jennifer Lawrence is set to play Katniss??? I know from Miss Bananas herself but I just stumbled upon this picture of her as Katniss and got excited!

Clearly my next, and last, book on the honeymoon was Catching Fire.

If possible, better than the first book in the series! Loved where Collins took the story and burned through the book in a day and a half.
I'm currently reading and close to finishing Mockingjay, the third book in the series. I'm going to be sad when it's over!!
So that's where you come in... need some new book recommendations!
Ready.... set..... GO!

gratuitous food post.

While I didn't weigh myself before my trip, I'm pretty sure I gained a solid 100 pounds from our Hawaiian honeymoon. The food and drinks were that good (and my self control was that weak).
 Get ready to drool.

{Tomato salad with local 'drunken' goat cheese a la Spago}

{It doesn't suck being on your honeymoon... all the delicious congratulatory desserts you can imagine!}

{Mama's Fish House in Maui.... well worth the drive}

{Macademia nut encrusted mahi mahi stuffed with lobster and crab.}
{The BEST piece of fish I've ever had.}

{Clams from Duo, located in the Four Seasons}

{Puka Dogs. OVERRATED}

{Love me some food trucks. Savage Shrimp is a local favorite.}

{Pork Belly with pork belly gnocchi courtesy of Red Salt}

Hungry yet? I have more pictures but I wouldn't do that to you... not so early in the morning at least.
I miss the food already!!!

honeymoon part deux: kauai.

After staying in Maui for four nights, we went to Kauai for four nights. After mourning our departure from the Four Seasons (yes, it's that amazing), we quickly realized how equally amazing the Grand Hyatt in Kauai was going to be. The place has a lazy river and water slide for heavens sake! We didn't hole up in the hotel the entire time like we did in Maui... in Kauai we ventured out each day because it was just too beautiful not too. Here are just a few photos for your viewing pleasure.

{We drove through the Kauai canyons one afternoon and took in the breathtaking views}

{Spouting Horn, a local legend. The water crashing against the rock sounds like a dragon}

{Enjoying some nightly entertainment at our hotel}

{The best decision of our honeymoon was taking a helicopter tour of the island. We landed at the Jurassic Park waterfall. I can't eloquently put into words what a beautiful site it was.}

{Our ride.}

{Just one of the hundreads of stunning views we saw from the copter}

{No picture will ever do Hawaiian water justice... it's the most gorgeous water I've ever seen.}

We truly feel like we got two honeymoons. Maui was all about relaxing and enjoying the pampering that the Four Seasons provides while Kauai was adventure, fast paced, and surrounding ourselves with the locals. We are so lucky to have experienced this trip!

No honeymoon recap (at least for me) would be complete without talking about the food.
Stay tuned!

we got maui'ed.

Excuse the pun in the post title... I couldn't resist.
I'm going to be working my way backwards on the wedding/honeymoon posts... I want to wait until I get my photographer's photos until I do the wedding post!
We left for our honeymoon the Monday after our wedding and were more excited than I can describe. We had a long nine hour flight ahead of us but we couldn't care less! Here are just a smattering of photos from Maui....

{Our first day in Honolulu before making our way to Maui}

{The view of the Four Seasons from our perch by the beach}

{Dinner at Spago our first night}

{No lie... they come around and put cucumbers on your eyes and spritz your face with Evian water. It's what  heaven must be like.}

{A picturesque view on our walk one day}

{The most perfect sunset}

{One of my favorite pictures... this was our daily routine}

If you ever get the chance to stay at the Four Seasons, even for just a day, do it. They provide service like you didn't even realize existed. Maui and the Four Seasons was the perfect way to start our honeymoon and prepare us for the more adventurous portion in Kauai.
Next up... Kauai!

let the exhaustion ensue.

Back to life.... back to reality...
Guy and I are back from our ah-mazing honeymoon and I can't wait to share pictures and stories from the trip! But first, this girl needs some sleep, mexican food, and to finish Mockingjay (more on that later).
In the meantime, I'll leave with you with my favorite picture from the wedding that I've seen so far - my maid of honor got a picture of Guy and I first seeing each other. Looking at this brings back such great memories... I can't wait to share more pictures with you when we get our photographers photos!

aloha time.

I'm signing off (although I may pop in once or twice to check in) for my honeymoon in Hawaii! Guy and I had the most spectacular wedding that I can't wait to share with all my lovely friends, family, and readers. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect night. I promise to share pictures as soon as I can!
Thank you to all our family and friends for making it an evening we'll never forget!!

For now... we'll be in Hawaii soaking the rays, drinking fruity drinks, and catching up on rest!

Wishing you a wonderful week!

{from our engagement in June of 2010}

I have jitters.
My cheeks hurt from smiling.
I can't believe May 6th is finally here.
Today I get to marry my best friend and honestly... I didn't know happiness like this existed.
Today is my wedding day!!!!!!!!

Thank you for all of your love and support... I can't wait to share my special day with you.

pretty much the worst hobby ever.

Please tell me none of you have crafted with cat hair.
If this is your thing, save the date for November 1st when this book is available.

last fling before the ring!

I'm a lucky girl. I had a New York bachelorette weekend and a Charleston bachelorette night. This past Friday my Charleston girls treated me to a night out on the town and it couldn't have been more fun!
We ate at Muse, one of Charleston's best restaurants, and had an amazing meal.
I was too busy stuffing my face to get gluttonous pictures of the food - bad blogger!
After dinner we drank and danced our way through Charleston. And my pictures prove this. They basically go from sweet and polished to hot mess real fast.
{Mags, Jenny, and I earlier in the evening}

{Closer to the end of the night...hour two of dancing}

And those are about the only pictures I can share from the evening. That's when you know you had a good night!
Here's to four more days of singlehood!!!
