happy new years eve!

Love this little video of my girl crush Zooey Deschanel & Joseph Gordon-Levitt singing us into the New Year. Could they be any cuter together? I think I need to watch 500 Days of Summer again.
And can we talk about JGL for a moment?
He gives every awkward teenager hope. Talk about growing up nicely.

Alright sweet friends... enjoy your New Years Eve! Be safe and please don't drink and drive!
See you in the new year!

morgan christmas movie reviews

Like many of you, the holidays are the perfect time for my family and I to head to the movies. We knew immediately what movies we wanted to see this season. In retrospect, they weren't the most holiday-ish movies but that's what the Hallmark channel is for right?!
We first saw Mission Impossible and LOVED it. I hadn't seen the last two so I wasn't sure if I would like this but ended up loving it. As crazy as Tom may be in real life, he's a damn good Ethan Hunt. Love me some Jeremy Renner as well so he was a bonus reason to go. Definitely hit this up if you haven't yet. It's a solid two hours of entertainment.

If you've been reading my blog for a while you know I was all about these books and have been waiting impatiently for the movie ever since. The first thing I would say is that this movie is not for the faint of heart. There are some graphic scenes. While they're needed to tell the story properly they're leaning on the too graphic side in my opinion. Beyond that, the movie is fantastic and follows the story nicely. It leaves out what's not needed and makes sure to include what is for the next movie. Everyone we went with had read the book except my brother and he said he followed the movie just fine. (There are so many Vangers, I'm not sure I could have without reading the book!)

What movies have you seen this break? Any that I should run out and see before work next week?

a christmas recap & new find!

Hi friends! I trust your Christmas/holidays were fabulous?! I'll be catching up on all your blogs shortly.
First, I thought I'd share a few of my favorite photos from my holiday.
{Lauren patiently waiting for Uncle Guy to open her present/My mom's Christmas Eve spread}
{Guy and I after opening presents late night Christmas Eve night/My sweet Brandon and I}

{If you're on instagram, don't forget to follow me at MorganSc}

All in all, we had a great Christmas with both sides of our family. I'm fortunate enough that my family is still here through Saturday so I have a few more days of family and fun in store!
In other news, have y'all heard of O'verlays?

This is an awesome company that sells overlays for furniture to amp up your DIY projects. They advertise specifically for IKEA furniture but I'm guessing these beauties work on more than just IKEA pieces.
Guy and I have the perfect dresser that we found at Goodwill that is begging for a makeover. Me thinks I'll be incorporating Overlays into this project.

Happy Wednesday!

merry christmas/hanukkah/kwanzaa/holidays!!

Our families Christmas celebrations start tonight and don't stop until the 27th so I'll be scarce around these parts. Wanted to wish every one of my lovely readers a joyous holiday weekend! Can't wait to return next week and see how everyone's holiday was.

a quick recommendation just for you!

As it is each year, this week is slammed at work in preparation for Christmas and most of my clients being on vacation next week. As you can imagine, this means I have zero time to come up with clever and fun blog posts. That said, I didn't want to leave you hanging so I bring to you the recommendations of all recommendations. While in NYC, I hit up Sephora and asked my lovely make up consultant for the best mascara.
Boy, did she deliver.

I give to you..... Benefit, They're Real.

This mascara blows my mind.
That is all.

christmas worthy recipe: cauliflower gratin

I'm asking you dear readers to trust me on this one. I know many of you would naturally tune out when one starts the word "cauli..." but I promise this recipe is delicious. Like most of you, I'm not the biggest fan of cauliflower but I'll give any recipe with cheese a chance once and I'm oh so glad I did this time.
I'm doubling asking you to trust me because my pictures didn't turn out all that great. I guess  you're not asking for a blog worthy photo when you have a white countertop + white cauliflower + white cheese.
You can find the recipe here. If you don't trust me, trust the 228 reviewers that gave it 5 stars. And if you don't trust them, trust Ina Garten since she has her own show.
Do you have your own show?
Me neither.

Guy and I liked this so much we're bringing it to my family Christmas. I'm letting them know this in advance so they can think about how they want to thank me later.

Happy Monday y'all! It's Christmas week! eep!

currently...

Today felt like the perfect day to link up with Jenn from Perfectly Imperfect for her 'currently' series. I'm always up for something fun & easy!

currently . . .
current book(s)... Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

current playlist...Christmas music! Loving the She & Him album

current color...Hm, to wear, probably purple. The last time I wore it I got more compliments than usual!

current drink...Earl Grey Decaf tea (at night!)

current food...I had some amazing truffle fries last night. I'm pretty sure I could eat those everyday.

current favorite show...Revenge or The New Girl. Can't get enough of either show!

current needs...Honestly, nothing. I'm very lucky and not in need of anything.

current triumph(s)...Tough call. I'm proud of myself for being in a tough situation recently where it would have been easy to lose my cool but I didn't. That's never easy.

current bane(s) of my existence...Again, can't think of anything! Guess I'm happier than I thought?

current celebrity crush... Easy. Ryan Gosling.

current #1 blessing...My family. More and more I realize how blessed I am for my parents, brothers, sister in laws, niece & nephews, and of course Guy.

current indulgence...Pistachios! I'm eating bags by the day.

current outfit...All gray actually. Kind of rare for me?

current excitement...Fun Christmas plans next week with family and friends!

current mood...Happy & Satisfied.

current favorite holiday decoration...All of my ornaments. They make me smile whenever I look at them.

current #1 item on your wishlist...Since I just bought myself THREE (eek!) pair of shoes... nothing! I need to stop doing that, especially around the holidays.

current new year's resolution...I never have been one to make resolutions. I'm sure if I did I would do the standard "eat healthier, exercise more" but why set myself up for failure? :)

That was fun! Thanks for hosting Jenn!

a diy for the new year.

I'm already thinking of the projects I want to take on next year once the hustle and bustle of the holiday season passes and a new year begins. I knew immediately when I saw these chairs on Anthropologie that I wanted to do a DIY around this. First, they're uber expensive at $122 (on sale even!) and secondly I see chairs like this all the time at thrift stores.
What a difference a little paint and fabric could make?!

I'm always looking for alternative seating, especially when we have family and friends over, and these would fit the bill nicely! We can tuck them away when needed but have them available when necessary.
Any DIY's on the horizon for you?

christmas time in the best city on Earth!

Guy & I are back in Charleston after a whirlwind trip to New York City. It was an amazing trip but I'm exhausted. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Being in New York City during the holidays feels like being at the center of the holiday universe. There is so much energy that you feel like you're running on adreneline (and cocktails) the entire time.
And sidenote, this is the first time I've travelled with an iPhone. While amazing, it does make me feel like I'm cheating on my SLR camera. I took all our pictures with the iPhone. My poor SLR...

Alright, let's make it a good Monday shall we?

christmas in nyc!

Guy and I are flying to New York City for a long weekend of fun with a few of his families members! I am so excited! Going to NYC anytime of the year is amazing but at Christmas is truly special.

We have big plans that include going to a jazz show tonight, Wicked tomorrow night, and an amazing Italian dinner Saturday night. The rest of the time will be spent sipping hot toddies in little hole in the wall bars, hitting Macy's for a mega shopping spree, and enjoying a little Christmas spirit a few weeks early.
I. Can. Not. Wait.

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend! I'll be back Monday with loads of photos I'm sure. And speaking of which, I finally got an iPhone (squeal with glee!) and have instagram. Follow me at 'morgansc' for fun NYC pictures!

yay or nay: houndstooth!

What's old is new again right?! This week's 'Yay or Nay' is around houndstooth. A fabric and pattern that has been around for ages but has hit a hot moment as of late.
What do you think? Love, hate, or indifferent?

Personally I love it, but in small doses. I think it would be perfect in a clutch.. or heels like Nicole Richie is wearing.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

mantle link up party!

Michelle is hosting a mantle link up party today and I knew I wanted to participate. Tis the season for fun, festive decor and it's always fun to see what everyone does in their own home.

ten june

Guy and I don't have a fireplace but we do have a mantle that serves as the center of our family room and I love to change it with the seasons. It may be on the simpler side compared to other homes but it's ours and I love it.

I made the 'Ho Ho Ho' banner last year and still love it to this day. The mix of milk glass and silver accents are throughout my Christmas decor so I love that the mantle emulates the theme as well.

Can't wait to see what the rest of you have done in your homes! Get your Christmas decor posts up and ready!

displaying christmas cards.

Every year I always struggle with how and where to display the Christmas cards we recieve in the mail. I usually display them on the hutch in my kitchen but they end up looking messy and aren't how I want them to be displayed. I starting surfing Google and the blogosphere for some inspiration and found a good bit!

I found this 'S' at Home Goods last month and thought it would be the perfect
way to display Christmas cards this year. So far I'm loving it!

How do you display the Christmas cards you recieve?? Please share!
Happy Monday!

get your tissue handy!

TGIF!
I thought I'd end our week with this amazing video I saw yesterday. Take the time to watch. These sweet beagles have been living in a lab their entire life and the video documents them seeing sun and touching grass for the first time. It's powerful. And a good reminder not to buy an products that are tested on animals.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

christmas traditions.

I wouldn't call myself a traditionalist but there are times when tradition is very important to me. Like many others, Christmas is that time for me. Guy and I enjoy traveling together and we wanted a way to remember all of our travels through the years. Years ago we started buying Christmas ornaments and it's become my favorite thing about our Christmas decor. Last night I was staring at my tree, taking in the ambiant lighting & yummy tree scents. I couldn't help but smile as I looked at all the different memories that hang on our tree. I'm very thankful for these memories and am so glad I have a way to remember them every year.

yay or nay: backwards cardigan

So interested to hear your thoughts on this one loves. I've seen bloggers and celebrities alike style the 'backwards cardigan' but I've yet to see someone in the flesh with it. I *think* I like it for the most part but haven't found the right way to do it myself. I definitely think belting it is the way to go to add some visual interest to the front.
So how about you? Yay or Nay?

{a la Satorialist}

{from Academic Chic}

Can't wait to hear what you think!
Hope all the Thanksgiving preparations are going well! I'm attempting my first pie... we'll see how this goes!

christmas gift guide: where my ladies at?!

With it being Thanksgiving week, I can't help but *start* to think about Christmas gift giving. I hate feeling rushed the week before Christmas so I start shopping early. I thought it would be fun to do a little series of Christmas gift guides and first up is for us ladies. There are so many goodies out there... it was hard to narrow the lot down.

Where are your favorite spots to gift hunt for your sisters/girlfriends/besties?

let the countdown begin...

Let's see a show of hands... who is ready for the Thanksgiving holiday?!?! I need this holiday.
I need the time off from work.
I need the big gluttonous meal (and the many gluttonous leftover meals after).
I need the couple of stress free days with Guy to just enjoy ourselves with family and friends.

It's been a stressful weeks folks. Not for one glaring reason... but for lots of little, tiny reasons. But even with the stress... I'm thankful for the upcoming holiday. Thankful for a job that gives me the time off from work. Thankful for my family living close and getting to spend the holiday with them. And certainly thankful for Guy and the ability to spend our first Thanksgiving together as a married couple.

As long as my 'thankful' moments outweight my 'stress/need' moments - I know I'm heading in the right direction....

Wishing you a quick end to your work week and a lovely weekend ahead!
And here's to a short week next week!!

morgan's book corner

Time for another round of my book corner. I've read some great books lately, have a few on deck, and would love some more recommendations from you!
Some recent reads....
{devoured this in two days. it's not quite as funny as Tina Fey's Bossypants but close}

{so amazing. I'm mad at myself for waiting so long to read it!}

{currently reading and loving! such a unique read}

I have these books waiting in queue....

{my friend CLo recommended and I always trust her judgment... this will be next up}

{another book I'm years behind on but will finally read}

So what have you read recently and loved? I found an amazing new used bookstore so I'm itching for another reason to head out there and pick up a few more reads.
