would you rather...

The beautiful Leigh Ashley tagged me in a fun post and I thought this Friday would be the perfect day to play along!
would you rather...

be extremely beautiful or extremely intelligent?
I'm going to bend the rules and hope that I can be extremely intelligent and be moderately beautiful.
go without brushing your teeth for a year or go without washing your hair for a year?
Easy! Go without washing my hair. They clearly make some amazing products to help & dirty hair almost always looks better than clean hair.
be rich or famous?
Another tough one although I'm not sure it should be. Fame could have it's perks but I think I'll choose money.
have an amazing shoe collection or an amazing makeup collection?
Shoes, easily. I really don't care about make up but I REALLY care about shoes.
be able to sing or be able to dance?
I want both! But if I had to choose I would choose dance.
be stranded on a deserted island or in the desert?
Who in their right mind would pick the desert?!? If you are one of them, please explain.
have a computer or a tv?
Computer. You can't blog on your television but you can watch television on your computer.
wear polka dots or stripes for the rest of your life?
I love them both but I think stripes.
drink out of a teacup or a mug?
I want to say tea cup but I'd get super annoyed with having to refill it all the time. Therefore, I must go mug.
receive a bouquet of flowers or a box of chocolates?
If you've been reading my blog for a while you know I love flowers. I can live without chocolate. I can't live without flowers.
get a hug or a kiss from someone you love?
Definitely a hug.
wear converse tennis shoes or stilettos?
Stilettos, without question.
meet johnny depp or robert pattinson?
I'm going to need you to leave my blog immediately if you choose R. Pattinson over Johnny Depp. I question your sanity.
drink a cup of coffee or a cup of tea?
 Chai tea please.
live somewhere sunny or cold?
Sun, always sun.
have an amazing house or an amazing car?
House. You can't live in your car. Well, actually, you can but you get what I'm saying.
be kind or funny?
Kind.
wear a necklace or a ring?
I refuse to choose. I woman needs lots of both in her life.
laugh or smile?
Can you laugh without smiling? I'm going to go no.
love or be loved?
I really can't choose. I love to love but it's be sad not to be loved back.

I won't tag anyone but would love for you to participate if you feel so willing. These are silly but fun and we all need a little of both in our lives.
Wishing you a wonderful holiday weekend...I have lots of fun planned and am so looking forward to the weekend!

panties & pies

Panties & Pies may sound like an odd pairing but it was oh so sweet last night. Our good friend Margaret and a fellow entrepreneur put on a 'trunk show' of sorts at one of my favorite spots in Charleston - Cavier & Bananas. It was a great opportunity for people to mingle, taste 3.14 Pies and peruse Private Eyes panty line.  Private Eyes is Margaret's company and it was so empowering to see her have her first large event in Charleston be so successful!!
{Cavier & Bananas; might be the coolest name ever}
{Guy & I with Margaret on her big night!}
{3.14 Pies. Delicious!}

{Lime Margarita Pie = Heaven}

{just a few of Private Eyes panties. Love  "I have brass boobs" and "i am not the note taker"}
{see those little pink paper panties? those are her business cards. genius}

{enjoying a little bit 'o bubbly}
Hope everyone else had a nice, relaxing Wednesday night! This week (knock on wood) has been going fast for me so I hope it keeps it up!

a resounding kudos.

Got the J.Crew June 2010 catalog in the mail today.
Strong work J.Crew, strong work.
I was immediately drawn to the jewelry they paired with the swimsuits. I was ooo'ing and ahhh'ing over the color combinations, soft vs. hard, and overall look.

But then I had to slap myself around and get back to reality... who the hell wears jewelry with their swimsuit?! And not just any jewelry - costume jewelry! I'd get run off the Charleston beaches for being too high maintanence.
Nice try J.Crew. You almost tricked me.
One thing I am loving, however, are the lipstick colors on these models with the slate dresses. So unexpected. It's hard to tell in this picture but look online at the their catalog and you'll see it's this amazing shade of magenta.
Divine.
{click on the photo to really see what I'm talking about}
Have a great night! I'm off to support my friend who is having a trunk show of sorts. Should be a great time! I'll try to take pictures for you - the location is a cool one.

change is good.

Keeping it simple today dear readers. I've got a lot on my mind, didn't sleep well last night, and thought I would share the above picture because I like it and think it's a good reminder.
Have a great Wednesday - only two more days and then it's a (desperately needed) long weekend!

yay or nay: denim on denim

Expecting to hear strong opinions on this one folks.
How do you feel about denim on denim?
Immediately when I think about that I think of this...
...and want to throw up a little.
But that was '99...here's what it looks like in 2010.
{the first annoys me but the second and third are cute}
{don't love it; don't hate it}
{Vanessa pulls it off; my guess is only someone in their early 20's or a supermodel could pull this off}

{not loving the wash on either the shirt or the shorts}
So tell me what you think! Are you wearing denim on denim? Are there only certain washes that you would do it with?
Hope you're having a great day!

a swell night.

Saturday night Guy and I had a date night since I had been gone for the past week. One of our favorite ways to spend a date night is Mexican and a concert. Luckily for us, The Swell Season was in town Saturday night. Do you know them? If not - you're seriously missing out. They're amazing. If you've seen the movie Once, you know The Swell Season.
{lime, on the rocks, with salt please. and keep them coming}

{I couldn't sneak my good camera in so I had to deal with the point & shoot. They had a really simple & lovely stage set}
{The Swell Season}
Check out their video below for their song "Low Rising". One of my personal faves.

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend! I'm looking forward to having a normal week without travel!

imprinted moments.

One of my favorite bloggers, Leigh Ashley, posted this post on moments that have impacted her life and are imprinted on her for a lifetime. I loved everything about it and was inspired to write my own.
...dancing on my dad's feet. He would come home from work and we would dance in the kitchen. Usually there was no music at all, just him humming or singing a little song to the two of us.
...my first road trip with friends. We drove from Appleton, WI to Chicago, IL to see Blair Witch Project on opening night. We were so scared we locked ourselves in our shady motel rool with every piece of furniture against the door. It was hilarious and ridiculous all at the same time.
...a first kiss & first love. We were at a birthday party, and stole away into a room to have some alone time and ended up having our first kiss. It was electric. I hope I never forget that feeling.
...bonnaroo music festival. I went the first year, 2002 maybe, with my boyfriend and his sister. We were in a major traffic jam because the town didn't anticipate the influx of cars and broke down on the side of the road. We had to sleep the night in the repair shop and ended up getting the repairs for free by mistake. I've never run out of anywhere so fast...
...sitting at a Backyard Burger with my mom, sobbing about how moving to Charleston was a mistake. I had been here 9 months, hadn't gotten a job or made a friend and missed my life in Madison, WI. I moved back to Wisconsin within the week and found my way back to Charleston within the next month. Funny how things work out...
...receiving an email from Guy. We had been flirting and going back & forth for months without commiting to going on date. While I was in Atlanta, and he was in Philadelphia, he sent an email at one in the morning that will forever change our lives. And I'm so glad he did. We had our first date days later.
A big thanks to Leigh Ashley for the blog inspiration. It was fun going down memory lane and documenting just a few. Now it's your turn; tell me one of your moments.

oh betty...

I love that Betty White is all over the place now.
 Have you seen this video? It'll only make you love her more; if that's possible.
Did you hear she stayed at the SNL after party until 2 am?! Awesome and hilarious all at the same time.
And I don't know about you, but I didn't realize how beautiful she was as a younger woman.
Makes sense why she's aging so well!
Have a great Wednesday! I'm in Seattle, working away in the morning and catching up on emails in the afternoon. Hope I can catch up on your blogs soon!

insights from the road.

I've already realized a few things two days into my week long work trip.
1. Bridgewater, MA has the worst street names and road signs. I'm not kidding when I say every street was either Pleasant Street or South Street. It was impossible to figure out. There might as well been the following signs around town.

On top of the piss poor street names and signs... I very well might be the worst navigator on the planet. Never go on a road trip with me. I'll be useless.
My second realization was actually confirmation of something I've thought for a long time:
HOTEL BATHROOM LIGHTING MIGHT BE THE WORST THING EVER.

It can't be just me right? You've noticed this before yes? I looked in the mirror this morning and a troll was staring back. I almost screamed - I kid you not. The lighting is horrendous and enough to make me avoid mirrors all together for the next four days.
I'm on a plane this morning, bound for Seattle via Phoenix. Here's to hoping for an upgrade!!

gladiator sandals: yay or nay?

Gladiator sandals... a trend from 2009 that's sticking around for 2010.
What do you think? Yay or Nay?
Personally, I'm not a fan. I can't even explain why I don't like them... I just don't like them.
{Like the color, don't like the shoe}
{While I don't love, somehow Kate Moss pulls everything off}
{Not cute. At all.}
{If I was forced to wear gladiator sandals at gunpoint... I might choose these}
{and the ultimate gladiator sandal. props for pulling them off but still hate them}
Let me know what you think! Is there another style of shoe that you can't get on board with?
Happy Monday!

just call me george.

This week I'll be playing the part of George Clooney from the movie Up in the Air.
I'll be spending more time in the air than on the ground.
My schedule is as follows:
Charleston, SC to Philadelphia, PA
Philadelphia to Boston, MA
Boston, MA to Phoenix, AZ
Phoeniz, AZ to Seattle, WA
Seattle, WA to Philadelphia, PA
Philadelphia, PA to Charleston, SC
In one week.
I leave today and come back Friday evening.
{sigh}
All I can hope for is smooth skies, productive meetings, and good meals to get me through the week.
Now I need to pack for 5 different types of weather and occasions.
And speaking of packing.... what's the one thing you have to bring when you travel?

Enjoy your Sunday!

no, no, no... I'm just going to rock you like a hurricane.

Who watched the Modern Family Hawaiian Vacation episode last night? I've been waiting months for it and it did not disappoint. That should could not be better. Cam and Manny are my favorites. And the wedding renewal.... amazing.

Anyways....I'm on an accessory kick lately and was compelled to check out Ann Taylor Loft after seeing one of my co-workers in an amazing necklace from ATL. I was surprised and pleased with their summer line.
{hello beautiful color of the oceans....}
{sophisticated yet modern}
{perfection with jeans and a white top}

{my least favorite of the collection but still pretty}

{the perfect stone against silver. me love}
{reminds of the anthro necklace of two years ago}

Any other place you're loving the accessory lines from? I need the inside scoop!

rompers: yay or nay?

I've had a fascination with rompers. I've always immediately written them off because I think I'm a) too tall for them, b) too old for them, and c) slightly think they look ridiculous.
But then I saw her. This girl walking back from the beach. In a romper. She was around my age. And definitely as tall as me. She stopped me in my tracks and made me reconsider.
I still wouldn't wear one out on a date or anything... but maybe, just maybe, as a beach cover up like she did?
What do you think? Yay or Nay to rompers?

Are there certain rules to follow with rompers? Do you own and wear them?
Happy Tuesday!

can we slow the clock please?

My family has been in town for one week and are in town for another five days. We've been having so much fun but I can't believe how fast it's going. We only get together as an entire family once per year so my mom insists on family pictures on the beach. Yup, that's right, white and khaki.
What the matriarch wants, the matriarch gets!
{getting seven adults and three children to all look at the camera at once is a feat. this was as good as it gets!}
And because I can't resist, here's my newest nephew Max.
{So dang cute!}
In other news, I'm so happy I posted this post and mentioned loving this swimsuit. My IRL friend Kristen immediately emailed me and told me where to find it. It's in the mail and on it's way to me. Yes! Got to love the power of the blogosphere.
Hope you all had a fantastic weekend - especially you mama's out there!
What did you do? Anything special with family?

Saturday, May 8, 2010

to all you mama's out there...

Happy Mother's Day!
Hope you're able to relax and spend quality time with your families.
I'm lucky enough to spend the day with my mom and my two sister-in-laws who are both mothers to my amazing niece and nephews! We'll spend the day celebrating the women in my family... and what a way to spend a day.

cities to live in to put a ring on it.

I heard recently over the radio that the 2010 Top 10 Cities to live in if you're a single woman are:
10. Austin, TX
{I love it here. One of my favorite cities by far! If I didn't love Charleston so much, I would move here in a heartbeat.}
9. Dallas
{Not a huge fan of Dallas myself but there must be something great about it!}
8. Pittsburgh
{Never been...anyone live there and love it?}
7. Denver
{Love me some Denver. So much to do and apparently a lot of single men!}
6.Phoenix
{Love to visit Phoenix but don't think I could live here. There's not enough green!}
5. Philadelphia
{Have been here twice. Like it, don't love it. Not sure this would be high on my places to live.}
4. Seattle
{Love Seattle! I would live here for sure... and the plethera of men is a bonus!}
3. New York, New York
{If you've been following my blog for a while.. you know love NYC and would live here in a heart beat.}
2.Washington D.C.
{My brother lives here and likes it but the traffic and amount of people get to be a bit much I hear.}
And the number 1 city to live in if you're single.......
BOSTON!
{Never been... but dying to go!}

Do you live in any of these places? Agree or disagree with the list?
I will tell you one thing.... Charleston. SC is an amazing place to live but NOT the place for single women. Why? Because there are a zillion beautiful, smart, and motivated women in this city. It's a man's dream really.

Hope you all enjoy your weekend!
xoxo
