to hoard or purge.

I live in a townhome development. Half of them have garages, the other half do not. (Mine does not) I was struck with how many garages were JAM PACKED with crap. I'm talking everything from mattresses, to trash, to clothing, to kitchenware. Never a car. Because they can't get them in the garage!
It got me thinking how people must have one of two tendencies: hoard or purge.
{Can you imagine? How do people live like this? Really sad....}

{did you know there are cat hoarders?! I'm a cat person but this is disgusting.}
I know most people aren't like the pictures above, but it even shocks me to see a garage so jam packed with stuff that you can't park your car. I'm definitely more on the 'purge' end of the spectrum. I have a strict one in, one out rule when I buy new clothing and am constantly plucking things out of my house for Goodwill because I can feel cluttered and closed in quite easily.
So how about you?
 Do you tend to keep everything? Or do you clean house often?

a night worthy of the headache & puffy eyes.

Rough morning but so worth it.
My Morning Jacket was amazing as expected. They never disappoint.
We start the evening by sipping some beverages by Guy's condo pool. Sure, he no longer lives there but we still take advantage of the amenities.
{pregaming before the concert}

{my sweet Mags & me}
The concert itself was amazing. If you ever get the chance to see MMJ - GO.

{i'm always mesmerized by the colors at concerts}
I started getting a little camera happy and realized I had taken like 50 shots of the band & colors and none of my friends. I needed to fix that.

{good heavens}

{my new favorite picture}
I love my friends.
Time to down 1 liter of water, try and concentrate, and recover from last night.
Happy Thursday!

some randomness for your wednesday.

Today is going to be a good day friends. I have a relatively easy work day ahead of me, and then am heading to tailgate for the My Morning Jacket show! Right here on Daniel Island!! I love MMJ but I love not having to leave the island even more. I can practically stumble home after the show. Divine.

{check this out... live out of a cab... pretty bad ass}
In other news.... can we take a moment to realize how amazing and classy Sandra Bullock is?!
She's handled her d-bag husband with grace and has adopted an adorable little baby.
I can't wait to get this issue in the mail Friday!
And finally, on a somber note, I'm really distraught over Bret Michaels.
No, seriously, I am.
He's brought us everything from Poison to Rock of Love.
What's not to love. Get better B.
Alright friends.... have a good one!

five beauty secrets.

While traveling recently, I read an article in some random magazine about 'Secrets Every Beauty Editor Knows. ' I found it interesting and thought you might too.
1. The obvious, water. But eight glasses a day is not needed. Just drink enough so that you're not thirsty. Also, if you drink a glass of water before you eat, you'll be less inclined to overeat.

2. Use SPF 15 everyday, rain or shine. (again obvious, but can you all say you do this??)

3. Always treat your hands and neck the way you treat your face. The skin on the neck is thinner than the skin on the face, yet most women don't care for it well. Same goes for the hands. (this is the one that hit me the most... a friend told me about this a year ago and I've been trying my damnedest to follow ever since)

4. There's gold in the drugstores. Take advantage of the bounty of inexpensive cleansers, moisturizers, and treatments that work just as well as luxery brands. The large cosmetic companies that produce drugstore products want you to be loyal to them, so they don't skimp on their research and development.

5. Good deeds= good looks. Studies show that a person who looks happy is perceived as more attractive than someone who looks sad. So do something kind of someone. And smile while you're doing it.

Your turn! Tell me one of your beauty secrets!

i love the way you love me baby.

What a great weekend! Saturday was Guy's & my third anniversary and we had a wonderful day of celebrating. He woke me up with breakfast and tulips - pretty much the perfect way to start my day.
We spent the day bike riding, running errands, and taking a nap before heading out to dinner at one of Guy's favorite restaurants Lucca.

{yummy Italian in downtown Charleston}
I found a new dress that was perfect for the evening and was so excited to wear it. Yellow & white is a favorite combination.
This picture doesn't do it justice. It's super cute, has white beading at the top, and a gray sash around the middle. I'm in love

And here's my Guy looking all GQ.
As usual, the food was amazing. Guy got the porkchop (which was the size of his head) and I got a fantastic homemade pasta & veggie dish. My favorite part of the meal was the wine however. We had a great bottle that I'll definitely be on the look out for in the future.

We had the best table in the restaurant... this little corner by the fireplace and windows.
It was such a perfect day and I'm so lucky to be with my best friend. Here's to looking forward to many many years!
Hope you're all having a great start to your Monday.

speaks to my inner hippie

I got the Fossil catalog in the mail yesterday.
(I'm not sure I've ever bought anything at Fossil so not sure how I got on their mail list?)
After looking, I have to admit, I'm impressed!
Their spring/summer line is a little southwestern, a little americana, with a twist of vintage.
Take a peek.

{I'll take it all... her hair, dress, and belt please.}

{so apparently denim shirts are on trend? I'm halfway on board...}

{like the floral details... and the flower colors. you can never have too many white tshirts}

{I'm 100% buying this shirt. I love it mucho}

{I have a thing for feathers. Sure, they're dirty in real life but they're a nice symbol. I could see myself rocking this bangle}

{Love this. But think I'll try finding it cheaper elsewhere}

Hope everyone is having a great end to their week! Guy and I have a busy but fun weekend planned - more on that in another post. Wishing you a great weekend!

Earth Day is everyday.

{heh heh... sad but true}

Happy Earth Day!
Did you know it's the 40th anniversary of Earth Day?
I'm a bit of a granola crunchy kind of gal at heart so I love me some Earth Day. Any day that reminds people to make more conscious decisions is A okay with me!
So tell me friends, how green are you?
I'm the annoying kind.
I insist people recycle. Like pull their soda can out of the waste basket at work and make a point to recycle it.
I picked up my parents recycling from their house for a good 8 months because they couldn't get recycling in their neighborhood. My neighbors must have thought I was a milk and soda addict based on my overflowing recycling bin week after week.
Every Earth Day I make a pledge to change one thing in my life that benefits our planet. Last year I gave up my daily Starbucks... both to help reduce my trash consumption and to help my check book. This year I pledge to use reusable bags while shopping. Guy and I always do at the grocery store but I rarely remember when I actually shop.
First step, buy one or two cute reuseable bags! :)

can we just skip today?

{my gussie hiding from the paps}

I feel like shizz today. No blogger mojo here. I'm tired, cranky, and have too much to do.
I just want to cover my face, put my head on my desk, and sleep. Is that too much to ask?!
Will be back tomorrow... hopefully a more rested, shiny happy version of myself.
Hope you're all having a better day than me!

strange but true.

Since I'm busy in Philly, I thought I'd leave ya'll with some strange but true facts.
1. 40% of McDonald's profits come the Happy Meals.
2. 315 entries in the 1996 Webster dictionary are misspelled.
3. On the average day, 12 newborns will be handed to the wrong parents. (seriously?!)
4. Ketchup was sold as medicine in the 1830's.
5. There are no clocks in Las Vegas gambling casinos.
6. It took DaVinci 10 years to paint Mona Lisa's lips.
7. Marilyn Monroe had six toes on one foot.
8. The average person falls asleep in 7 minutes. (not me! it takes me at least 30!)
9.The only domestic animal not mentioned in the Bible is the cat.
10. The average person's left hand does 56% of the typing.
11. A cockroach can live 10 days without it's head. (ewwwwwwww)
12. We shed 40 pounds of skin in a lifetime. (ewwwww again)
13. There are more chickens than people in the World.
14. You burn more calories sleeping than watching TV.
15. The three wealthiest families in the World have more assets than the combined wealth of the 48 poorest nations.

Interesting facts right?! I don't think I knew any of those before!
Hope you're all having a great start to your Tuesday!

this girl refuses to miss a weekend.

Hi! Happy Monday! I'm feeling much better, thank you for all the kind wishes on Friday. I'm not 100% but I'm definitely heading in the right direction. I refused to let my nasty cold ruin my weekend and I ended up having a fabulous one. Saturday Guy and I hit the beach and then went to a great spot along the water to watch the Blue Angels perform. Have you seen them? They are more than amazing. Something everyone should see in their lifetime for sure.
{i forgot my camera at the first show so I made sure to see them again to at least capture a few pictures!}
Sunday we went to the Family Circle Cup here on Daniel Island. Every year the best women tennis players come through Charleston for a tournament and Guy and I make sure to at least go to one day of the tournment. We were lucky enough to go to the finals this year because Guy's brother had extra seats. It wasn't the greatest tennis finale you'll ever see but fun nonetheless.

{the start of the match}

{Guy, his niece Sumer, and brother Steve}
{an Aussie on the left & a Russian on the right}
The Austrailian won decisively.
I'm off to Philadelphia today until tomorrow night. I'll catch up on your blogs this evening!
Enjoy your Monday - as much as that's possible. :)

a friday in bed.

Happy Friday!
I'm sick. Ugh. It was bound to happen. I've been traveling for three weeks straight and knew I'd catch something from the airplane. Fortunately I am able to work from home today so I can rest, catch up on sleep, and hopefully not allow this to ruin my weekend.
I took these photos in my parents yard a few days ago... I love azaleas and my mom's are in full bloom. I had to photograph them because if you know azaleas... they're gone before you know it.
{surrounding her magnolia tree}

{so pretty}

{do you see the bee??}

{it's like where's waldo... but with a bumblebee}
Hope you all are able to enjoy your Friday! I'll be in bed, pouting, and watching Millionaire Matchmaker reruns.

buy a pair of shoes and do a good deed.

I think I just bought a pair of shoes that are going to change my world.

I was practically sold based on their mission (above) but then I started reading the reviews. Everyone, and I mean everyone, has said they're the most comfortable shoes they've ever worn. Between that and the philanthropic mission - I couldn't resist.
So today, my friendly UPS man brought me my Toms... and I can't take them off my feet.
Meet my beauties...

Hello lover.
I know some of you may never understand... and probably think these are the ugliest things you've seen... but I'm in love. I'm already searching the site for my next pair.
Do you own a pair? Do you love?

did you know dolphins are just gay sharks?

I know I'm going to be one of many that post about Glee this morning but I just can't help it!
Did you watch last night? Did you love? Honestly, how could you have not?
Between Sue, the snarky yet dumb cheerleaders, Emma's wardrobe and the new love interest for Rachel...it's going to be a good season! (as if there was any question)
In other news, tomorrow is 'Make a Difference' day at Starbucks.

Bring in your own mug and you'll get a free coffee!
Happy Wednesday Gleeks!

jorts: yay or nay?

I don't think I'm atypical when I say shorts aren't my favorite thing. Most of my girlfriends agree they'd rather be in skirts or dresses in the summer rather than shorts. That said, I've noticed an explosion of shorts lately - particularly JEAN shorts. (known affectionately as 'jorts' to many of us)
How do you feel about jean shorts? Do you wear them? Is there an age that's too old?
Amanda Byrnes

Gisele
{I imagine if we all had legs like Gisele, we'd all be rocking the jean short 24/7}

Hilary Duff
{like the cuff - just wish they were an inch or two longer}

Katie Holmes
{How do you feel about the tights under shorts? Did you do that this winter?}

Leanne Rimes
{yeesh. not my favorite}

HA! I couldn't resist. Jean shorts will always be a 'no' for men!
Can't wait to hear your opinions!
In other news, fellow blogger Madeline was on the same wave length as me yesterday and did a great post on statement necklaces. All of hers are from JCPenney and they're (gasp!) fabulous! Click here to view the post.
Finally, need a favor friends. My friend Margaret is starting a business and is in the running to win $50,000!
 All we need to do is view the video - couldn't be easier! Click here and take two minutes to learn more about her business. She's smart, funny, and super motivating! Count it as your good deed for the day. :)
