a world not born until you arrive.

'Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and its only by this meeting that a new world is born.'
-Anais Nin

I've been thinking about the people in my life lately; the majoriy of who are fabulous and enrich my life for the better. But there are also people, friends actually, who have let the friendship wane for one reason or another. Now I'll be the first to admit that I'm not perfect when it comes to relationships and friendships but it's sad when you realize you've put forth effort for very little in return. And suddenly you realize you're exerting too much energy and you just stop. And when you stop, the friendship stalls and will soon cease to exist all together. You become acquaintances, say the occasional hello and goodbye, and keep moving through your day.
I'm sure this happens to everyone. All friendships aren't meant to last. There's a quote, which I can't find right now, but it speaks about how not all relationships are novels. Some are simply chapters. I think I'm realizing that some people that I thought were novels... are chapters. And I'm okay with that.

No matter if someone is a novel or a chapter - they've shaped me and gotten me where I am today. And for that I am grateful.

It does sadden me to think of relationships from my past that once brought so much joy in my life don't exist anymore, but with everyone changing it is inevitable that we will not change together.

Same thoughts on my mind lately... partly because me having to leave Milwaukee is coming much quicker than I want it too and I worry that some of these people who have come into my life and changed it and made it better might not be the people in my life down the road... Distance will do that. Scary, but I think you said it best. Everyone comes and goes from our life for a reason.

i've had a lot of "chapters" in my life. some good. some bad. but in the end they were meant to be just that...short with a point and hopefully a lesson learned.

my few good novels are worth more than any chapter.

Great post! I too have had many friends that I thought would be apart of my life novel that turned out to be just short chapters... some that I still think about.

I've been going throught the same thing lately & it does make it easier to know that some people are just chapters. Some friends & people are in your life for just a season, they teach you something, then move on. Beautifully written :-)
