rompers: yay or nay?

I've had a fascination with rompers. I've always immediately written them off because I think I'm a) too tall for them, b) too old for them, and c) slightly think they look ridiculous.
But then I saw her. This girl walking back from the beach. In a romper. She was around my age. And definitely as tall as me. She stopped me in my tracks and made me reconsider.
I still wouldn't wear one out on a date or anything... but maybe, just maybe, as a beach cover up like she did?
What do you think? Yay or Nay to rompers?

Are there certain rules to follow with rompers? Do you own and wear them?
Happy Tuesday!
xoxo

Seeing them in the store I'm totally thinking NO, I WOULD NEVER BE CAUGHT DEAD IN ONE OF THOSE....then I see them on girls and I actually fall in love with them a little bit. Plus I think they would be super comfy...and I'm all about that

I haven't made the leap yet...but I've wanting to. That blue stare pretty is adorable! I've been drooling over this one. http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=18313296&navAction=jump&search=true&parentid=SEARCH_RESULTS

I don't think I'd ever wear one, but they can be cute. Definitely beach-appropriate. How do you go to the bathroom though??

I've always thought, Oh my god that looks ridiculous... But then I took one in to the changing rooms once by a mistake, and I decided to try them on anyways, and I kind of fell in love a little bit. I didn't end up buying them, but I was debating it a bit in my head.. I seriously don't know what to think of them..

Haha @ the bathroom comment above!!

I am on the fence about wearing them out on the town but I think as beach coverups they are great and maybe even for running errands on the weekends....

Oh i'm a big supporter of rompers. They are the most comfy pieces of clothing. My only complaint happens when i use the restroom. I'll let you sit on that thought for a while...lol.

I absolutely love them! You just have to find the right one for your body type.

I think rompers are adorable, but I don't wear them myself. They make me nervous, haha. But you should try them! I especially like the Ecote Summer Romper that you posted. xo

oh, i just don't know. i don't think i would wear one, but they would totally NOT be flattering on me. i think you have to have the right frame to wear one... sounds like you do though, being tall!!

I had been very nay about rompers until I found a cute one at Target, tried it on and loved it. I bought it to wear on my honeymoon. And it's SOOO comfortable!

I like them, but I don't have any... you should read cait's blog because she just talked about her romper purchase!

I think they are cute...until you are over the age of two. Then I think they are just kind of Harajuku (sp?) Girl semi-creepy.

Sorry. But seriously I never put one on my child after age two...and I would never wear one. It looks like pj's to me and not appropriate for going around town.

I don't own one, but I definitely think they're cute!! On the other hand, I have a feeling they're definitely a trend that our kids will look at our pictures 15 years down the road and go, "Mom! What on earth were you wearing!?"

Jessica said...

I definitely don't own one because I personally feel like I'm "too big" for them, although I'm not claiming to be "fat". But, I for surely don't know what rules to follow with them. I just think some people can pull them off and some can't.

Post a picture for us; we'll let you know! :)

I just read Hillary's comment above mine and I think she's so very right! Too funny, Hillary!!!

I love them! on other people lol. I worry about pulling in the crotch area because I'm tall & have a long torso. I might consider it as a beach cover up though!

stylebyrachael said...

Yay all the way! The only thing is to find the one perfect for you, they are so hard to fit because everyone's torso length is so different, and there is no adjusting. Just try, try again until the perfect one fits you!

there is a sad story of rompers. there was a girl named holly, she grabbed every romper off the rack, even awesome ones from topshop, but everytime she tried one on, it looked RIDIC!!!!! (mainly cuz shes so tall) but she never gives up hope to find the perfect romper. the end. :)

I think I feel the same way you do about them, Morgan. I'm too old for them, and they look a little ridiculous (I don't know that I'm "too tall" since I'm 5'5").

But, I'm turning... there are some really cute ones out there, and I could see wearing one in a casual setting, like the beach or a cookout at a friend's on a really hot day. Even a tropical vacation like my cruises.

We'll see. If I find a cute one that looks good on me, I just might cave.

If you get one, post pictures!

Hmmm I think they look cute, but I dont think I personally could pull it off...

I'd say . . . yes as a swimsuit cover up, no to out-on-the-town. I think they can be cute, but they can be over the top if they try to look too little girly.

I totally love them! and you can totally wear them! DO IT! I bet you'll look super with them! I actually think you could wear some out on a date. There are some super ones {usually a solid color} that can totally be dressed up! PROMISE!!

and I think I have used 'totally' enough times to have convinced you?! ;)

drollgirl said...

i can't do it. i think there is always a crotch issue, and tugging and pulling something out of the cooch or butt is something i don't want to have to do!

OceanDreams said...

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of rompers. However - I think they look so cute on some girls. I just don't have the body type or frame, but they are cute!

I have always thought they looked a little funny, but super cute at the same time! And secretly, I really want one!

I say yay, if you have a flat stomach. The bigger the stomach the more camel toe in a romper and that's very unattractive, I saw this one girl, and well it was a shame what she was showing the world!

Great blog!! I am so glad I found you. I am still undecided on this trend. They look really weird, so I don't know if I can do it. I never joined the gladiator craze either.
