to hoard or purge.

I live in a townhome development. Half of them have garages, the other half do not. (Mine does not) I was struck with how many garages were JAM PACKED with crap. I'm talking everything from mattresses, to trash, to clothing, to kitchenware. Never a car. Because they can't get them in the garage!
It got me thinking how people must have one of two tendencies: hoard or purge.
{Can you imagine? How do people live like this? Really sad....}

{did you know there are cat hoarders?! I'm a cat person but this is disgusting.}
I know most people aren't like the pictures above, but it even shocks me to see a garage so jam packed with stuff that you can't park your car. I'm definitely more on the 'purge' end of the spectrum. I have a strict one in, one out rule when I buy new clothing and am constantly plucking things out of my house for Goodwill because I can feel cluttered and closed in quite easily.
So how about you?
 Do you tend to keep everything? Or do you clean house often?

I'm no where as bad as the first picture but I'm a hoarder. I barely throw anything out. But I keep things in boxes so i guess that's better?? lol. The cat hoarder is pretty bad tho. I can't imagine that.

I'm the opposite of a hoarder, but I'm secretly totally intrigued by them. I guess it's the psychologist in me...

I wouldnt say I am like a clean freak but I dont like clutter either so I am in the middle. Nothing gets too disgusting or cluttered because then I get all castrophobic like, so I donate and throw away. My mother on the other hand WATCH OUT lol and door could bust open at any second and attack you! haha Happy Friday =D

i'm definitely not a hoarder but i used to be. not nearly as bad as those people on tv. i did give myself a mini intervention though, after i found a box of letters from my 7th grade boyfriend that all began with this...

"hey mayra, waz up? how are you? i'm good..."

I have garage issues...a garage is meant for a car and maybe some yard tools. In Florida people think their garage is an extra room in the house. They have couches, tv's and treadmills in their garages. And then they have their cars parked in the street. This drives me nuts. First of all it is 110 degrees in the garage for 8 months out of the year. And secondly why would not want to protect your car from all the horrible storms we have here.

have you ever seen Hoarders on A&E I think it is?? Its like Intervention for addicts but its for HOARDERS!! Its really honestly horrifying... but like a train wreck, you can't pull yourself away from watching it.

I'm currently forced to park in the driveway b/c my garage is full half-finished furniture. The other half of it has our boat parked in it. AT least it's housing ONE vehicle, right?

We have a few garages in our neighborhood, that I wonder how the people even open them. There is so much junk stacked on top of more junk, I would think it would just fall out when the door opened.

And those hoarding shows are sad. Addicting.. but sad.

That is so gross, lol! I try my best to stay clean and tidy, but it's hard in small living spaces. I make frequent trips to good will.

i am a little bit of both...i HAVE to have a neat and clean house but i have the WORST habit of hoarding in places you can't see...on top of my hutch in drawers...but about every six months i get a crazy itch and completely clear them out of anything useless...but we definitely use our garage for it's intended purpose of parking cars!

I am a purger to the extreme.... I cannot stand clutter. I cannot stand unnecessary things. I'm trying to get less anal about things, but I still am uneasy if I have piles on my counters or if I know there are extra "things" in the closet. Yikes!!
And those kitties just make me sad... poor babies.
Hope you are enjoying Guy's bday... I sent a card in the mail and I hope it made it on time :)

I've seen two houses that look like the first picture in my life, and both were terrifying/depressing. It must be a serious mental illness . . . there's just no way you can live mentally healthily in that environment! I especially feel sorry for kids who grow up in that sort of squalor. UGH. Going to clean now . . .

I try very hard to clean out what I don't need/use, but find myself unable to throw out what it still useful so I save it to donate somewhere, but never get around to it.

I'm downsizing from a huge apartment to a one bedroom in a few months. It'll be interesting to see how well I do with getting rid of so much stuff.
