thursday non profit spotlight

I can't believe it's been so long since I've done a non profit spotlight.
Shame on me!
I saved a good one for today however.
Angel's Gate Hospice for Animals

This organization is amazing. Their focus is providing abused, challenged, and abandoned animals a home for life. They focus on wellness and quality of life for the animals. They have a beautiful ranch in upstate New York where the animals have an amazing place to live out their days.
Click this link to see a spot Oprah did on them a few years ago. (some of the audio comes and goes but you'll get the gist)
You can't not view that video and think this place is extraordinary. I wish I lived closer so I could visit or be a volunteer. For now, monetary donations will have to do.
Do you have a favorite charity?

I love this.... animals have a very special place in my heart and the thought that there are people out there who are so cruel to animals just breaks my heart. I love that this place exists.
Favorite charity? Well... right now, my will is set up so that everything I've got would go to the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin and the Fox Valley Humane Society. Those two will probably always top the list. But I will support almost anything...

what a brilliant idea, and such a good cause to support. i wish i could help ALL of these animals and make their lives better. and i'd like to lock up any person that would hurt a pet.

I work for a nonprofit called Community Works. We're based in the Bay Area, and facilitate arts/social justice programs with incarcerated people and folks who have been impacted by incarceration (children of prisoners, women who have just gotten out of jail, grandparents who are caring for their grandkids while their own children are incarcerated). I teach high school kids (at a public school) who have incarceration in their families. It's amazing how often overlooked these people are, and I feel really lucky to work with them!
