etsy love: heart of light

I just found the jackpot. I looooovvvvveeeee this Etsy shop. I feel like it's Christmas morning. I want everything this adorable girl makes. They're little pieces of art and any girl would feel ridiculously special wearing one of her pieces.

Etsy really might be the best invention. EVER.

i'm being followed.

Can anyone else not get away from this song? Love the girl but seriously. I turn on the radio. It's on. I'm in the elevator - the girl next to me is blaring it from her iPod. I'm in a store - it's on. My grocery store cashier is humming it while checking my items out. I. Might. Go. Crazy.

stylin & profilin

It's been a good week already for various reasons but one of those reasons is I won a giveaway! What a way to start a week! The adorable Hilary from Blissfully Enamored had a Jayme Fort stationary giveaway and I am the lucky girl!
I love sending cards in the mail and Jayme's beautiful designs will only add to my collection of stationary (and let me tell you... I have quite the collection!) I got to choose any design I like and I immediately knew which design I wanted: The Sarah Stationary.

Isn't it cute? I love the colors and anything monogrammed is fine by me.

Thank you Hilary and Jayme - you made my week!

{p.s. I'm actually an uber lucky girl because I won another giveaway over the weekend but I'm waiting to post on what I won until I get my grubby little paws on it... keep a look out for a post soon!}

adorn your tresses

I just fell in love with an Etsy shop: OdalisPetitMenagerie (discovered via the beautiful Jacqleen.)It isn't the largest Etsy shop but what she does have is a-d-o-r-a-b-l-e. If you like headbands... head on over. Here's a sampling of what I was coveting.

Let me know if you have a favorite go to spot for headbands, pins, barrettes, etc. I'm in the market!

weekend in review

Happy Monday Friends! I hope you all had lovely little weekends! Mine was great... low key which is just what I wanted.

Friday night I went to dinner with these lovelies. We tried La Fourchette , a restaurant that's been in Charleston for a while but none of us had been. It was good but not my favorite (for those of you that know Charleston... this is a foodie town so my expectations were high!) If you do go, get a bunch of appetizers.. you won't be disappointed.
Saturday I didn't get a chance to go to the antique jewelry show (boo!) but Guy and I did lounge around and watch football all day which was exactly what the doctor ordered. Gus followed suit and found a new place to rest. :)
Sunday we ran errands, got things done around the house, and had dinner with my parents. An all around productive day! Oh, and I found the perfect spot for Gus' portrait. What do you think? Adds to the kitchen right?!

Happy Monday! Hope it's a productive one!

{P.S. Guy and I watched Ghost Town Saturday night? Have you seen? If not - rent it! So good.}

voice over recognition

I realized today, after turning on the television for my football game, that so many commercials nowadays have celebrities doing their voiceovers. It always surprises me how I can recognize someone's voice immediately. We're just that saturated with celebrities I guess!
Here's a little Saturday game for you - watch these commercial snipets and see how quickly (if at all!) you recognize the celebrity behind the commerical. No cheating! :)

What other commercials can you think of where you immediately recognize the voice??

happy friday!

Happy Weekend Friends!

Only one work day left before the weekend! Any big plans? I plan to:
- Watch my Badgers kick Michigan State's ass
- Hit up an antique jewelry trunk show downtown
- Wish for a rainy Sunday. I'd love nothing more than to lay low with Guy, bake some pumpkin cupcakes, and catch up on Mad Men Season Three!
- And finally, celebrate my amazing father's birthday Sunday night with a barbeque at my parents house

how is it possible that television makes me this happy?

One of the many things I love about fall is the television premieres. It's like when spring ends and summer begins - you're ready to take a hiatus from television to enjoy the sunshine.... but now that summer is officially over... all you want to do is snuggle up in front of the television.
I'm sure I'm not the only one that is reaaallly excited for the Grey's premiere tomorrow! How could you not be with how the left it last season?!? Here's a little reminder of how they left things.

AGH! Seriously?

Two hour season premiere tomorrow night! Don't forget! Set your DVR! (It is Thirsty Thursday afterall.... far be it from me to keep you from your normal festivities!)
And if you can't wait like me... here is a sneak peek of tomorrow's premiere.

{P.S. if you haven't discovered already, the Grey's writers blog's FABULOUS!}

LC for Kohls? Intriguing...

In doing some internet surfing last night... I discovered Lauren Conrad is launching her LC clothing line at Kohl's. I'm intrigued. We all knew it didn't make it in the high end market and I was actually hoping she would launch elsewhere so I could see what it's all about.

There isn't much on the website - yet - but the two dresses that are there are pretty. I'm definitely going to hit up my local Kohl's a bit more often to see what to make of Miss Conrad's collection.

Check out the collection here.

makes a girl wish for cold weather

{the bow is heaven!}
Loving this coat from Victorias Secret. So lady like and demure. Very Audrey Heburn don't you think?

stunning on the red carpet

Some of my favorites from Mad Men and Gossip Girl where looking beyond lovely on last nights Emmys. I actually didn't watch but checked them out first thing this morning - they didn't disappoint.

rooftop party; check!

Remember this post where I was in love with the idea of going to a party on a rooftop? Well I can check it off my list! The lovely Kelley (top left pic... in middle) had her birthday party on her husband's architecture firm rooftop and it was a-m-a-z-i-n-g.
I wish I had gotten better pictures so you could see how amazingly beautiful the set up was but trust me - it was perfection. Perfect Charleston weather + good people + great drinks = a lovely September evening.

make it rain

Last night I had my first BUNCO experience. I got together with 15 other girls, most of which I don't know that well, and had a BLAST! I knew it would be fun becuase it was a good group of women but it ended up being way more fun than I expected. I went in with no expectation of winning since I've never played before but yours truly came out on top! For those of you that play, I was the winner of most games and had the most BUNCOS. I think I've found my calling.

Home girl walked out with $120 cash money. SWWWWEEEEETTTTTTT.
So my question to you is - if you won an extra hun-do.... what would you use the money for? (and nothing practical please... that's just no fun!)

crock pot taco soup

I decided to make some comfort food last night for dinner - it's not quite fall weather in Charleston but I couldn't wait any longer! I made taco soup - which actually we don't eat like soup. Annnnyyyywayyyss, it's really good and I thought I would share in case you're in need of some new fall recipes!

Crock Pot Taco Soup
Servings: 8-10

1 (16 oz) can pinto beans (I use black beans instead....)
1 (11 oz) can niblet corn
1 (11 oz) can Rotel tomatoes
1 (28 oz) can diced tomatoes
1 ( 1 oz) envelope taco seasoning mix
1 (1oz) envelope hidden valley ranch dressing mix
1 lb shredded chicken

1. Cook meat and drain
2. Shred if needed
3. Add all ingredients to crock pot
5. Stir
6. Cook on high for 2 hours or low for 4 hours
7. Garnish with sour cream, shredded cheese, or tortilla chips (We eat it on rice... just another idea...)

put your thinking caps on.

via google images
I just saw a segment on the Today show that got me it possible to be friends with an ex? And by 'be friends', I mean truly friends... not yearning to be back with them or keeping them close to keep an eye on them (come on... you know what I mean!)
Personally, I've never been able to stay friends with an ex... I've only had two and am not friends with them for VERY different reasons. Guy feels different about this.. he's friends with one of his ex's and would be friends with the other if she was interested. It's just how he is I guess. I don't work that way.
So what are your thoughts? Are you friends with your ex? Is it truly possible?

gus has been immortalized.

I've been wanting to get a portrait done of Gus for a while.... something special to always have and hang on my wall. I found FuzzyMug through random Etsy searching and immediately knew she was the one.

Here's a sneak peek at what Brooke does:

And here is what she did for my Gussie!

Don't you love? It's just perfect.. and I can not wait to find the right frame and hang it up in my house. The question now is where....

do i always have to be late to the party?!

How am I just NOW discovering Gossip Girl. I can't stop watching. Season One almost under my belt, Season Two ordered, and Season Three set to DVR tonight! And someone please tell me how I never noticed Penn Badgley before?

He's a one finnnnnneeeee man.

an oasis

I was inspired this weekend to tackle my lackluster backporch. It's been neglected for the 2+ years I've been in my house and decided it was high time I make it beautiful. I cleaned out all the junk, washed the furniture, swept the floor, and most importantly brought in LOTS of plants to make it beautiful. I imagine Guy and I eating dinner out there lots once it cools down sufficiently.
Hope you had a relaxing weekend! xo

notice anything different??

It's been a good Saturday for many reasons but mainly because I GOT A NEW BLOG LOOK!!!!! (Can you tell I love it - because I'm absolutely crazy about it!)
I had noticed Jessica's work on two of my favorite bloggers blogs (see here & here) and knew she was the gal for me. With very little information from me, she nailed who I am, what I wanted, and how I wanted my blog to look. I couldn't be happier... truly.

So what do you think? Do you love?

If you're in the market for a new look - PLEASE check Jessica's work out... she's reasonable, professional, and great to work with. THANK YOU JESSICA!!!!!

{note: I'm still working on the side bars so keep your eye out for changes....}

{new} new moon trailer!!!!

THIS. IS. THE. BESTMuch better trailer than the first that was released. There isn't enough Jacob for my liking but it will have to do until November. ENJOY!

taking a moment to remember.

I think it's important to take a moment today to remember eight years ago. It shouldn't be hard to do - it was probably the most defining day in any of our lives. I've felt the same on this day over the last eight years. I can't get that that day and all my memories out of my head every year when September 11th rolls around. It's the one day, and I mean the only day, that I can remember everything I did. I can't even remember what I did yesterday. But September 11th 2001 - I remember everything.
I remember leaving my boyfriends house minutes after the first plane crashed. I only realized this after I hit every radio station wondering why no one was playing music. I finally stopped to listen - really hear what they were saying - and that's when I knew how horrific of a morning it had just become.
I remember getting to my house, running up the porch steps two at a time to wake my three roommates up only to realize they were already gathered around the television with shocked looks on their faces. I'll never forget that moment. It was right when the second tower fell.
I could go on and on. The point: Please remember. Don't dwell but remember. Each of us owes that.
{Take a look at Meg's blog post today... really poignant & beautifully written as always}

the 80's never looked so good.

How great are these images from the shooting of Sex & the City 2?! LOVE THEM. How about the socks Charlotte is wearing? With the balls. Hilarious. Samantha definitely takes the cake for best outfit. Kim Cattrell is rocking it at 51.

tis the season....

...for online sales! My inbox just got innudated with different promotions and sales going on. Thought I'd share with you lovies!
15% off cords at GAP. They have lots of fun colors! Offer good in the store as well. I'm LOVING those mustard yellow cords.... think I may just have to get me a pair.

15% off orders of over $100 at Victoria's Secret
20% off boots
25% off over 150 styles of pants (I can personally vouch for 'Christie' fit in seasonless stretch. I'm not lying when I say every work pant I own is this style and brand)

One more thing.... if you have a TJ Maxx near you... go immediately. They just stocked their fall shoes and boots and the place is slammin'. We're talking Michael Kors, Jessica Simpson, Bandalino, Frye, & Coach just to name a few. I was like a kid in a candy shop... except that I walked out with nothing because the boots I really wanted didn't have my size. Here's to you having better luck!

bucket list for 2010: attend us open

Guy and I have been glued to the boob tube watching tennis for a week straight. I don't play tennis. At all. But I love watching it. Mainly due to this man. I luuurrrrvveeee Rafa Nadal. Apparently I kept saying "Damn, he's sexy" while watching him play last night. Seriously? Had no clue. Guy asked me to politely keep those thoughts to myself. Ha. Guy prefers Federer. You could say we're a house divided. Lord help us if the final is Federer v. Nadal. Things could get ugly.
The real hit of this years US Open is Melanie Oudin.
She's ranked 70th, is 17 years old, from Georgia and is killing it. I'm talking beating Maria Sharapova killing it. In fact, as I type this at 8:55p EST... she's playing. Tune in immediately.
