have you had your moment?

Have you ever looked at the ‘missed connections’ area of Craigslist? If not – you should – there’s often entertaining posts. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about – missed connections is where someone can post if they think they had a moment with someone but never got their name… or perhaps got their name but didn’t get their information. They hope that person felt the moment as well and will check ‘missed connections’ for a post related to their meeting. It’s all very exciting and fun and it got me thinking if I had ever had a moment that, if not with Guy, I would have post a missed connection on. I immediately remembered my moment.

As you’ve read, I travel quite a bit for work. Sometime in 2006 B.G.(Before Guy), I was flying from Austin to Atlanta and sat next to this amazingly beautiful man. He seemed to be close to my age, traveling for business, and not awful to sit next to so I was excited. Now, I don’t typically talk to strangers on planes. I’m that person that immediately gets her book and headphones out to make sure everyone around her knows she wants to be left alone on the flight. Not this time though. I struck up a conversation with him, learned he was funny, charming, interesting, and nice. The plane ride flew. I didn’t want it to end. I wanted to keep talking to him.

When we were deplaning, we said our goodbyes… both with a little reluctance. We wished each other well and that was that.

A week or so later I was traveling yet again, through Atlanta. I had a tight connection and was running Home Alone style through the airport. I decided I couldn’t wait for the train so I ran through the underground tunnel with the moving sidewalk. I was weaving in and out, bumping bags, and then it happened. I saw him. Running the opposite direction on the moving sidewalk across the way.

I stopped and stared, still moving on the sidewalk of course.

He saw me and stopped. We both are now just moving away from one another on the opposite side on the tunnel.

He waved, I did the same, and we reluctantly return to our frantic dash in opposite directions.

I still think about him. It’s rare that you have a connection like that with a complete stranger and get a second chance to see them again. If Missed Connections had been around then (maybe it was?) I think I may have made one.

I think about him whenever I hear Dave Matthews 'Little Thing.' Listen to the lyrics and you'll understand why. Unfortunately there isn't visual to the video below but the song is amazing...

Cool story. I wonder whatever happened to that guy. Do you think you would remember him if you ran into him again one day?

WOW, what a great story! Can't believe you saw him AGAIN! I've never had a missed connection, but considering that I've been with my husband since I was 15... yeaaah :-) Hope you have a great day!

I had no idea that part of Craigslist even existed. And just what I need... another reason to avoid finishing my finals... but off I go :)
As for me... nope, no moments. Maybe someday...

I can't say I've ever had one of those Missed Connections moments, but I find it interesting that you've had one TWICE!

Wow... my heart fluttered when I read how you stopped on the moving sidewalk and waved to each other. What serendipity! I love that I can use that word!

Here's to the "moments"!
